Live Review: Marina And The Diamonds @ Webster Hall

There is just something about Marina Diamandis that makes you can't take your eyes off her. It could be that voice...a little bit Kate Bush with a more aggressive twist. Or maybe its the fact that Diamandis can walk on stage in a blue and black plaid dress and feathered heels and you can still take her seriously. Whatever it is, it works...and well.

Opening the set with the song The Family Jewels, the crowd immediately became enraptured with Diamandis as she confidently strutted on stage. Playing a number of songs off her debut album The Family Jewels as well as some unreleased tracks including Jealousy, she exuded not only confidence but a huge amount of star power as fans belted her quirky lyrics right along with her.

Naming her tour the Burger Queen Tour, Diamandis payed homage to America with a stars and stripes tank top and shorts for her encore...and a massive burger prop in hand. Quite appropriate for the last song she played, Hollywood. Seems like she's won over more than just Hollywood...all of America is in love.

Likely Looks: Marina and the Diamonds - Shampain

Marina & the Diamonds is back with her brand new single and video for Shampain, the fifth from her album The Family Jewels

Teaming up with director Kim Gehrig (who has also directed videos for Goldfrapp, Calvin Harris and others) clearly shows her love for a little Michael Jackson circa Thriller and 80's makeshift prom dresses...in the ever-so-quirky Marina style.

Likely Looks: Marina And The Diamonds - Oh No!

The lovely Marina strikes again (of course with her diamonds...) for her new video Oh No!. Adding a little pop art a la Lichtenstein plus of course Marina herself make this video a non boring one to say the least.

Marina will be Stateside soon on several Lilith Fair dates as well as a couple of solo shows sans Lilith in between. First though, take a few minutes out of your day to watch Oh No!

Likely Listens - Marina and the Diamonds

Its quite nice listening to something for the first time and absolutely falling in love. Case in point with Marina and the Diamonds.

On first listen, Marina who is of Greek and Welch decent is obviously influenced by Kate Bush but has somewhere along the way found her own sound. Her stuff is absolutely incredible.

Marina and the Diamonds - Obsessions

She's got a couple of dates in the UK coming up and a single coming out on Neon Gold Records on February 16, 2009.
