Likely Listens - Catherine A.D.

Catherine A.D. has a hauntingly beautiful voice thats along the lines of Kate Bush, Tori Amos etc, which of course makes me a fan...and Courtney Love is already a fan!

On first listen I became intrigued...and thanks to the very lovely MK of Popbytes I was able to be introduced to her.

No sows in the States yet but there will be two upcoming gigs in London on February 14 at the Notting Hill Arts Club and on February 27 at the Royal Festival Hall.

Hopefully we can have a surprise at SXSW and she'll be playing!

Sunday Video Rewind: Lush - Ladykillers

This is a band I miss greatly...

Lush crafted the perfect amount of shoegaze with 90's era Britpop to make some killer singles (no pun intended). I remember seeing this video years ago on 120 Minutes and was instantly hooked.

Its a classic!

Lily Allen's 'It's Not Me, It's You' Album Sampler

Lily Allen keeps giving us little hints about exactly how her upcoming album "It's Not Me, It's You" is going to sound like before its release date on February 9, 2009...and it sounds fantastic!

Here's a little sampler with a few new tracks from the album that haven't been leaked already (there are 5 songs floating around in full currently).

Oasis At Madison Square Garden 12/17

The last time Oasis stepped foot in Madison Square Garden it was June 22, 2005. 3 years later they still have the ability to sell it out and blow a crowd away with the perfect set list of old classics and new favorites.

Of course, the crowd favorite were Wonderwall and Don't Look Back In Anger. There was even some love shown for Lyla which was quite nice as that's on the newer side of things.

Oasis still haven't lost it after all these years...they can carry a show with just their attitude and good tunes and people will still go mental. Did I mention how incredible both Liam and Noel sounded last night as well? Incredible. God bless Oasis.

As for the set list, here it is:

Rock 'n' Roll Star
Lyla
The Shock Of The Lightning
Cigarettes & Alcohol
The Meaning Of Soul
To Be Where There's Life
Waiting For The Rapture
The Masterplan
Songbird
Slide Away
Morning Glory
Ain't Got Nothin'
The Importance Of Being Idle
I'm Outta Time
Wonderwall
Supersonic

Encore:
Don't Look Back In Anger
Falling Down
Champagne Supernova
I Am The Walrus

Here are loads of video clips so you can feel like you were there if you missed it:

Katy Perry Apologizes To Lily Allen

So the feud comes to an end as Katy Perry owns up to her mistakes and apologizes to Lily Allen.

Speaking out to Us Weekly, Perry states, ""Yeah, I made a joke about [that] earlier this year. I was just kind of joking and trying to be funny. I didn't mean anything by it. Comedians are not necessarily to be taken super seriously."

Nice one Katy...

Likely Listens: La Roux

Welcome to the wonderful world of La Roux where 80's electro-pop meets modern day dance music in perfect unison.

La Roux is singer Elly Jackson and synth player Ben Langmaid, who has played before with Faithless' Rollo Armstrong. Together they've come out of nowhere with their fantastic single "Quicksand" to make them one of the bands to watch for 2009.

Also, they've got a tour supporting Lily Allen in March of 2009 in the UK...can't go wrong with that one!

Here's the video for "Quicksand":

Lily Allen vs Katy Perry Round ?

Lily Allen has no problem speaking her mind about well, anything. This time she's lashed out on Katy Perry claiming she is "an American version of me".

Speaking to Capital FM in London Lily stated, "I happen to know for a fact that she was an American version of me. She was signed by my label in America as, 'We need to find something controversial and kooky like Lily Allen.' And then they found her... I think the lyrics and stuff are a bit crass. When I met her I was a bit frosty with her because someone asked her to describe herself. She's like, 'Aha, I'm like a fatter version of Amy Winehouse and a skinner version of Lily Allen!'. It's like, you're not English and you don't write your own songs, shut up!"

Whose side are you on? Team Lily or Team Katy?

Meanwhile, in other Lily news she's got a fantastic new video for her single "The Fear"

Thursday, December 04, 2008

Likely Looks: Lily Allen - The Fear

Lily Allen is back with her first video from her new album "It's Not Me, It's You"! The clip is for "The Fear" and its absolutely darling.

Lily looks amazing as she quickly goes from trailer park trash to high class in a matter of seconds. Plus, you can't go wrong with a video that has dancing presents!

And The Opening Band Is...

Alphabeat! The band has been announced as the opening act for all of Katy Perry's North American tour dates coming up in 2009.

They've also got a new video for their single "What Is Happening" which comes out November 24th in the UK.

Here is the video:

Likely Looks: Oasis - I'm Outta Time

Oasis have decided to hit the sappier side of things in their new video for "I'm Outta Time". The video features Liam walking through a psychedelic English countryside singing as he goes...nothing mind blowing but its still a great track.

The single will be out December 1 in the UK.

Katy Perry Announces North American Tour

Katy Perry has been 2008's breakout star with now two hits under her belt ("I Kissed A Girl" and "Hot N Cold") and yes, I am a fan. There is something you can't resist about infectious pop with an 80's twist...

Likely Listens: The Steps

Out of all the garage rock bands you hear today (seems like there is a new one every day, huh?) there are few that actually stick with you and you grow to like. One of the few lately are The Steps from Austin, TX.

Made up of Will Thompson (vocals and guitar), Sam Thompson (lead guitar), Stephen Ross (bass), and Z Lynch (drums), the band formed in 2005 and quickly gained local attention in the Austin scene.

In early 2007 they recorded their debut self titled release with Chris "Frenchie" Smith (who has previously worked with The Dandy Warhols and IV Thieves) which was released in November of the same year.

They've got an edge and a catchiness you can't resist...and definitely worthy of a band to watch title for 2009.

Check out the video for their song "Cold Floors" here:

And now for an MP3 of their track "Belle":

Madonna Brings Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake On Stage...In The Same Night!

The woman can do it all! Madonna, managed to bring a revived Britney Spears and her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake on stage in the same night (no, not together unfortunately) at her concert last night in Los Angeles.

Britney came on stage for several bars of Madonna's hit 'Human Nature' which you can check out here:

Justin then joined the Queen of Pop for their hit '4 Minutes To Save The World' which isn't as exciting as Britney but still...it was a surprise too

Madoona still has several dates on her Sticky & Sweet Tour which wraps up the U.S. leg on November 26th in Miami.

Lily Allen Takes On The Guardian

After a not so pleasant write up about the latest press release for Lily's new album "Its Not Me, Its You", Ms. Allen took it upon herself to reply to the article herself.

Check out the article HERE

Here is Lily's reply:

i think that what you wrote earlier was thoughtless and uncalled for. Murray was an all too easy target, he has a lot of respect for me and was only trying to be enthusiastic about something he feels passionate about. It's quite obvious the part of his press release you referred to was "tongue in cheek". As we all know, it would be ridiculous to compare me to Wordsworth or Bennett and your poking fun at his reference was cheap, really. Personally i don't care , i'm perfectly used to people poking fun at me, but Murray doesn't put himself in front of the camera, and in my opinion didn't deserve the ridicule. It's hard enough being my press officer at the best of times, and i don't think anyone would appreciate their friend or business associate being called "madam" by someone who had never met them. it's plain rude. i wonder if maybe there is some other agenda in the guardian blog office regarding myself, as it seems the things i have read there always tend to be quite negative? Well anyway , i hope we can put this all behind us and that you can move on to writing something else that makes other people feel stupid , and you feel more clever.
lily allen

p.s i wish you had called me earlier , I would have quoted Upon Westminster Bridge (maybe the most popular of Wordsworths poems, but arguably the best) down the phone at you word for word. it was the first poem i recited at school and has always stuck with me. It was, in fact the inspiration behind my song LDN . I have never been a massive fan of Bennett though.

I must say...the article was quite harsh.

Likely Looks: Meiko - Boys With Girlfriends

There is something about Meiko that takes her out of that typical "singer/songwriter" genre and makes her a little more unique.

With her first video for "Boys With Girlfriends", Meiko is caught running around LA and away from the girlfriend (aka a big giant pluhie bear dressed in pink).

I think I would have run away from a giant plushie as well...

Oh, and she's also on the Hotel Cafe tour if you want to catch her

Here are the dates:
October 2008
28 - Washington, DC - 9:30 Club
29 - Philadelphia, PA - World Cafe Live
30 - New York, NY - Bowery Ballroom
31 - Boston, MA - Paradise Rock Club

November 2008
1 - Brooklyn, NY - Music Hall of Williamsburg
3 - Cincinnati, OH - Bogarts Front Room
5 - Chicago, IL - Park West
6 - Minneapolis, MN - Varsity Theater
7 - Madison, WI - High Noon Saloon
8 - Saint Louis, MO - Blueberry Hill
9 - Lawrence, KS - Liberty Hall
11 - Denver, CO - Bluebird Theater
12 - Salt Lake City, UT - Avalon Theater
13 - Boise, ID - Big Easy Concert House
14 - Portland, OR - Doug Fir Lounge
15 - Seattle, WA - Chop Suey
17 - San Francisco, CA - Great American Music Hall

Likely Looks: Katy Perry - Hot N Cold

I am not going to lie...I absolutely love Katy Perry. She's cute, she writes great pop songs and she's definitely got 80's influence running through her veins.

Her new single and video, 'Hot N Cold' is one of those upbeat tracks that will give you a little daily pickup. Enjoy!

Likely Listens: Thomas Tantrum

Thomas Tantrum are a four piece from the UK with the absolute sweetess indie pop tunes I have heard in quite some times. ow did I find them? Well let's say Chris over at Music Snobbery has good taste and I take his suggestions. Oh, and Lily Allen is already a fan...

With a female lead singer, Megan Thomas and Ken Robshaw (drums), David Miatt (guitar) and Jim Shivers (bass) rounding out the line up they've created a self titled debut album to kill.

The album is out now in the UK...in the US who knows.

Likely Looks: Those Dancing Days - Home Sweet Home

Those Dancing Days could be the most lovely Swedish import EVER!

In their new clip for "Home Sweet Home" the girls go on an adventure around the world to basically every place you can think of as they dance their way across world maps, sandy beaches and the beautiful wilderness.

It makes you just want to take a vacation. NOW!

Lily Allen Album Release Date

...And we have a release date! Finally! Lily Allen has announced on MySpace that her new album will be coming out February 9, 2009.

Will it be good? We've already had previews of the direction she's taking (I Could Say, I Don't Know) and its definitely got the same Lily goodness that I fell in love with when she released "Alright, Still".

Here it is...in her own words (from her blog):

"My new album will be released on the 9th of Feb 2009. I know it's a while away, but there will be bits and bobs flying around before then, I'm shooting a video(for viral release) in the next couple of weeks , to keep you entertained .

I am so excited, were getting all the artwork and stuff done and coming up with new and interesting ideas. I am trying really hard to do this album with integrity and I want you all to know that it has been thought about by me, not just some thrown together last minute industry bullshizz.

I hope you'll all love it as much as I do, I'm working on extra stuff in the studio at the moment , it seems making an album isn't enough these days, some websites (not naming any!) wont put an album on their front page unless you give them exclusive tracks, not that i'm complaining, I am at my happiest in the studio so it works well for me, I just don't want to put out sub standard stuff . I always thought an album was a body of work in itself. you take it or leave it . You wouldn't say to a painter "yeah i love the naked ladies ,but would you mind painting their hair blonde instead of brown, and making their tits a bit bigger?" or " the trees are really pretty, a few more leaves perhaps?" Maybe you would actually , ha ha .
Anyway whatevs.

Oasis Cancel New York Show

The show at Terminal 5 in New York was just too good to be true. After the attack on Noel at Virgin Festival in Toronto, his injuries are just too intense to perform tomorrow night.

Here is the statement from Oasis' official site:

"As a result of the incident on Oasis' Canadian tour, when Noel was attacked by a stage invader Oasis, are now being forced to announce that tomorrow night's show at Terminal 5, New York cannot go ahead as planned.

Noel fell heavily on to his monitor speakers when he was pushed suddenly from behind by his attacker and suffered bruising to his ribs and hip. Unfortunately, he still has not recovered from his injuries and so he will not be able to perform tomorrow.

All tickets can be refunded at point of purchase."

Oasis already cancelled their show in London, Ontario...guessing the next time they come around wll be December at Madison Sqaure Garden. Ugh.

Hipster Second Life?

If you are into the website Second Life but needed a hipster twist then here is the answer! The website is called LoudCrowd and it's every indie geeks answer to a good time.

Oasis Postpone Tonight's Show In London, Ontario

After being attacked on stage the other night at the Virgin Festival in Toronto, Noel Gallagher has been advised to not perform at tonight's show in London, Ontario. Advice taken...the date is now postponed.

Fans that have purchased tickets for the show will be able to use them for the new date on December 15, 2008. Refunds will be available at point of purchase.

Here are all the details according to the official website:

"Following an incident during Oasis' performance at the Virgin Festival in Toronto, when Noel was attacked by a stage invader Oasis are regrettably being forced to announce that tonight's show in London, Ontario cannot go ahead as planned.

Noel fell heavily on to his monitor speakers when he was pushed suddenly from behind by his attacker and suffered bruising to his ribs and hip. He was examined in a local hospital after the band's performance and has been advised to rest. Unfortunately, despite resting up yesterday, the extent of his injuries mean he will not be able to perform tonight. The band are very keen to complete their Canadian tour and the final London, Ontario show will now be rescheduled to Monday the 15th December. Ticket holders are asked to retain their tickets which will be valid for the new date. Refunds for those unable to attend can be made at point of ticket purchase."

If you missed the clip of Noel being attacked, well here it is. He went flying...

Talk about crap security...how the hell did they let at 47 year old dork on stage to be able to push Noel?

Johnny Depp Takes The Stage With His Old Band

Its not often that an actor would be mention on WBOTLB BUT when Johnny Depp takes the stage with his former band The Kids, yes it gets our attention!

The actor took the stage on Friday and Saturday (August 29 and 30) in Pompano Beach, FL for a charity performance benefiting the Sheila Witkin Memorial. Playing in front of 2,500 (including girlfriend Vanessa Paradis and daughter Lily Rose), the band jammed for 90 minutes.

Here is some footage from Friday night's show:

Likely Looks: Kings Of Leon - Sex On Fire

Kings Of Leon are a serious machine when it comes to making record. They've got a new one coming up entitled Only By The Night and of course with a new album comes new music videos!

I don't know how much I get the new video for Sex On Fire but I will say the Followill brothers (and cousin) are a nice sight at least.

Bloc Party Announce Intimacy

The boys in Bloc Party know how to throw a little curveball every now and again...and this time they announce the release of their third album Intimacy 3 days before the day of release.

The album will be available through the band's official website for pre-order for the August 21st digital release date. The physical release date will be for October 27th...but the good news is that if you order the physical album now you'll get a digital copy so you can hear it when everyone else does.

Bloc Party made fans aware of the ability to purchase the album instantly when they held their August 18th web chat with fans. The album follows the release of the UK single Mercury, which was released on August 11.

Its Bloc Party...therefore its going to be brilliant.

Likely Listens: Now Now Every Children

From the home of the Replacements, Prince and Soul Asylum I bring you Now, Now Every Children. With the sweet sounds of dreamy pop and a perfect touch of indie rock, this band drew me in from the the first note on their MySpace page.

Listen and love...

Likely Looks: Black Kids - Look At Me (When I Rock Witchoo)

Black Kids get their 80's on with their new video Look At Me (When I Rock Whicoo). The visuals are quite sweet and its a reminder of how awesome music videos used to be with their super cool green screens.

Here's the video:
Look At Me (When I Rock Wichoo)

New Oasis! The Shock Of The Lightning

Its here! The new Oasis single has arrived! If you haven't heard The Shock Of The Lightning yet then head over to Dead Flowers to listen.

Thoughts?

Here are mine...I love it. Surprised? Probably not.

Reason why: Its sounding like the older more passionate Oasis yet a bit more mature. Could you ask for anything more at the point the band are at?

Likely Listens - Meiko

With just the right amount of well...everything, its time for the world to meet Meiko.

Hailing from Georgia and currently residing in Los Angeles, the singer/songwriter got her start at the Hotel Cafe. Now she has a record deal with Lucky Ear/MySpace/DGC Records and is slowly creeping the way into the hearts of everyone that listens to her.

She just re-released her self titled album on August 5th and for a bit of time if you purchase the album you get a limited addition acoustic EP (see it DOES pay to buy an album!). You can purchase the record HERE

Also, for your listening pleasure here is an MP3 of a track from the album called "Under My Bed":

Likely Looks: Santogold - Lights Out

Santogold is currently unstoppable! With a new single for "Lights Out", Santi gets crafty with patterns as she performs with her famous girl sidekicks.

It seems like a fabric store blew up and the trio had some fun with it...

Jay Z "Throws It Back" To Oasis

After words were thrown between Oasis and Jay Z, it seemed that Jay had won the battle...and Jay Z felt the need to rub it in Noel's face a little more.

Jay Z joined Kayne West on stage the other night at his gig at Madison Square Garden and the performance is brilliant. Jay even throws in the word "bloke" in his rhyme...how crafty.

Monday, August 04, 2008

Likely Looks: Lykke Li - Breaking It Up

Lykke Li is absolutely darling. In her latest video for "Breaking It Up", Lykke let's down her signature bun, throws on some smoky eyeliner and breaks out some wicked dance moves for her anthem about well...breaking up.

Its another side of Li that I would like to see a lot of more of...

MGMT Played To A Packed McCarren Pool

MGMT may be the reigning kings of Brooklyn's music scene right now...and they proved it with a killer performance at McCarren Park Pool on Sunday (July 28).

The line was insanity...people were waiting hours in the rain to get in, they shut off the VIP list, beer was tapped, you name it and it happened.

Coming on at around 5:45PM with dreary skies above, the band played a set list with all the goodies from "Oracular Spectacular" that had everyone dancing.

Playing "Time To Pretend", "Kids", "Pieces Of What", "The Youth", "Weekend Wars" and many others, the crowd was going mental throughout the whole gig.

Does It Offend You, Yeah? Zombify Jimmy Kimmel

Does It Offend You, Yeah? had a little fun on their appearance with Jimmy Kimmel the other night by making Halloween come a little early.

Playing "Dawn Of The Dead" live, the band threw on some zombie costumes and put some fun into live TV.

Check out the clip here:

Likely Listens - Alphabeat

Alphabeat are the most perfect 80's band ever...its a shame they were babies in the 80's.

Regardless of what year they were born, this band have created one of the most catchy albums of the year with their self titled album...its definitely going to be a Top 10 of 2008 (so far!).

Hailing from Denmark, their already a huge success in their native country and are creeping their way up to strdom in the UK. Of course, the US is the last to know about anything (unless its midwestern rock) but hopefully Alphabeat will make a name for themselves with their killer single "Fascination".

Here is the video for "Fascination":

Now, don't tell me you didn't get out of your seat and dance...

MGMT - Electric Feel (Behind The Scenes)

I sort of think this video could be the worst thing ever created.

Therefore, now you can see scenes from how the "worst video ever made" was created. Maybe I'm being too harsh and its not the worst video ever made...but its b-a-d. I still have love for MGMT though!

Karen O Announces Side Project

As the Yeah Yeah Yeahs continue on making their third album, Karen O has just announced she will play two inimate shows with her side project "Native Korean Rock".

The shows will happen on July 21st at Union Pool (wooo Karen getting back to her BK routes!)

The tickets are on sale now through Ticketweb...not sure if they will be sold out when you try to purchase them but good luck.

Here's all the info from the official YYYs website:

"Native Korean Rock is a side project of mine comprised of a body of love songs written over the last two years, to be performed with a motley crew of NYC natives. Expect high drama, high stakes in two intimate performances.

Does Native Korean Rock have anything to do with Yeah Yeah Yeahs? NO

Are these the leaked demos of years ago? NO"

Likely Looks: The Verve - Love Is Noise

Now I'm not going to lie...The Verve can do no wrong in my book. The video is quite simple...just close ups of Richard (who minds THAT though) and some nice pretty scenes of people making out and in l-o-v-e.

Quite sweet, yea?

Beck Announces US Tour

When Beck announces a tour then its something to talk about...

Bummer...

Likely Looks: Albert Hammond Jr. - GFC

Albert Hammond Jr seems to continue his indie rock domination with his new album "Como Te Llama?"

The video features Albert and the band on a nice psychedelic trip courtesy of a spinning lamp. Fun!

Likely Looks: Beck - Gamma Ray

Beck is back with his new album, Modern Guilt and a new video for his single Gamma Ray. I guess he was feeling his inner Warhol because the video reminds me quite a bit of the screen tests Warhol did of The Velvet Underground some time long ago.

Also, I am digging the long hair...

Albert Hammond Jr Plays Special Show For Spin

Albert Hammond Jr has been all over NY playing gigs in support of his second solo album, Como Te Llama?. The private show for SPIN Magazine on July 9th was the second of his special gigs in NYC.

The vibe was a bit weird walking in as electro blared from the speakers of Hiro. The free Budweiser flowed as the typical hipster crowd showed up to catch Albert.

Taking the stage a little after 11PM and opening with "Everyone Gets A Star" from his new album, the crowd stood there placid as they thought they were too cool to dance to the tunes.

The sound at Hiro is a bit crap and it took its toll on Hammond and Co. They were (I am guessing) a little rusty from not playing for so long and it could have been better. Do I blame him? No. He had a bad crowd to deal with...

Overall, Hammond really did perform well despite the circumstances. Hopefully he gets a better crowd on any upcoming tours he has...or else it will be painfully boring for him.

Likely Looks: CSS - Rat Is Dead (Rage)

CSS is back with their new album "Donkey" and a killer first singl to go along with it. The video for "Rat Is Dead (Rage)" sees Lovefoxx in all her leotard glory running rapidly around set to a killer guitar rift. Guess all that covering L7 has given then a rock edge? Whatever it is...I dig it

Tuesday, July 08, 2008

Likely Listens - The Postelles

Hailing from New York, The Postelles are bringing back a little bit if retro to the Big Apple.

With their single "1 2 3 Stop" being produced by Albert Hammond Jr from The Strokes, the band has also opened for the singer as well.

They've mastered the art of making the perfect pop song...if it was the 60's of course!

The Postelles - Boy's Best Friend

Likely Looks: Bloc Party - Mercury

Bloc Party came out of nowhere with a new video and single called "Mercury". The song premiered on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show last night and I must say...its quite brilliant. Its a bit darker which I love and a bit less dancey which is a nice touch. Experimentation!

Here is the new video for "Mercury". Its a bit odd with all the animals and whatnot but I sort of dig it:

Also, sorry for the delay in posts. My trusty computer battery decided to officially die on me the other day so its been a struggle to get on line. Things will be back to normal starting tomorrow

Amy Winehouse Throws A Punch At Glastonbury

Amy Winehouse was apparently a typical mess at Glastonbury with the slurring lyrics, talking about Blake and well...just being typical Amy Winehouse lately.

Before apparently being escorted back to the hospital immediately after her performance, she still found the energy to punch a fan who attempted to touch her trademark beehive.

Hey, if someone was pulling my hair I probably wouldn't hold back either.

UNKLE Gives Away 4 New Tracks

Jay-Z Covers Wonderwall at Glastonbury

I guess there are no hard feelings with Jay-Z and Noel Gallagher anymore considering he covered "Wonderwall" at Glastonbury.

Jay Z clearly can't sing...but it was a good try. He also clearly didn't know the words...at least the crowd got to hear Liam's vocals throughout or it would have been a bit painful.

Boy George Is Denied His U.S. Visa

It seems that getting in trouble for drugs in the States will most certainly stay with you for a while. With an upcoming tour, Boy George has been denied his visa to come into the country and it isn't determined if the tour will be canceled or postponed.

Speaking to Paper Magazine, George said the following: "I'm pretty devastated because I am so excited about this forthcoming tour and having my visa application denied seems unfair after I swept the streets of New York spotless. There are a number of public figures who are openly using drugs and they have no problem with immigration and I have seriously turned my life around and I feel great right now and this is just another reminder of how bad things were. I committed a crime and I happily paid the consequences and I should be allowed to move on and get on with what I do best and that is performing and making people dance and cry!"

Here are the tour dates (if they are still happening!):

Likely Looks: Blood Red Shoes - This Is Not For You

Blood Red Shoes "get under each other's skin" in this new clip from their album Box Of Secrets.

"I've wanted to work with Laura-Mary and Steven for some time and knowing that they're constantly being asked if they're an 'item', I wanted to play with that relationship and replace the sexual tension with something darker and more sinister," says director Tim Mattia

The video is shot in black and white and is absolutely lovely...

The single will be released with 2 new b-sides on June 30th in the UK through V2 Records.

Those Dancing Days could be the most adorable band ever...

With their new clip for their single "Run Run", the girls are running about and being their usual cute selves as well as getting a free ride from some guys that are skilled in chair pulling.

Just lovely!

Likely Looks: The Ting Tings - Shut Up And Let Me Go

The Tings Tings seem to be popping up everywhere lately. From a sold out U.S. tour to their track (and their latest video!) "Shut Up And Let Me Go" on the latest iTunes commericial, you just can't avoid the band.

Their latest video is reminiscent of a mid 80's video (can't go wrong with that) and the bonus is (hopefully) the band do cartwheels out of nowhere mid way through.

Is M.I.A. Seriously Retiring?

If you were lucky enough to catch M.I.A. at her last ever gig (according to her) then consider yourself lucky. “This is my last show and I'm glad I spent it with all my hippies", said M.I.A. during her set from the front of the stage.

Ending on a high note with Paper Planes she once again announced, "Thanks for coming to my last gig." If it comes straight from the horses mouth then you have to believe it, right?

Then again how many times have singers "retired" and then came back. I don't think this is the last of M.I.A...well, at least I hope not.

Adele Live at Highline Ballroom 6.11.08

Adele has been on my radar for quite some time now and I FINALLY got the chance to catch her live at the Highline Ballroom last night. Playing to a packed house, Adele played a short but sweet set of tracks from her debut smash "19" and a couple of covers.

Her voice is absolutely stunning and she's quote fun on stage. Plus, her cover of the Coral's hit "Dreaming Of You" was a nice surprise and absolutely lovely.

Here is the set list:

Right As Rain
Melt My Heart To Stone
Daydreamer
Dreaming Of You
Cold Shoulder
First Love
Make You Feel My Love
Tired
Hometown Glory

Encore:
Crazy For You
Fool That I Am
Chasing Pavements

George Michael Done With Touring?

George Michael is billing his final two dates on his current tour "The Final Two". Michael will be ending the tour at Earls Court on August 24 and 25th.

Why titled "The Final Two" you ask? Well, according to Michael's website, "Michael will return to London to end his tour with two exclusive, filmed, concerts at Earls Court entitled THE FINAL TWO which is a nod to his sell out Wembley Stadium show, 'THE FINAL' with Andrew Ridgeley in 1986 when he brought the curtain down on Wham!,"

There you have it folks...catch George on this tour or never catch him again.

Coldplay Postposted Their Upcoming Tour

With a U.S. tour ready to happen in just a couple of weeks, Coldplay pulled the plug on the June 29th start date due to "production delays".

The tour will now start on July 14th in Los Angeles as opposed to June 29th in Philadelphia. Fans can get refunds for the canceled shows or hold on to their tickets till the date is rescheduled.

The free shows happening in New York, London and Barcelona are still good to go though! Did you get your tickets?!

Nick Jago Leaves Black Rebel Motorcycle Club For A Second Time

Does drummer Nick Jago want to be in BRMC or not? For a second time it was announced that Jago has left the band to pursue his solo project.

Announcing his departure via MySpace, the two remaining members of the band posted to the following to clarify:

To all of you who have read or heard about Nick's myspace posting, Peter and I would like to clarify a few things from our perspective. It's true, Nick wont be
joining us for the upcoming European tour, but it's not true that he is
fired. We just feel Nick needs time to sort out exactly what he wants right
now. His heart and all his energy and attention is on his own solo project
and he needs to see that through.
We welcome his singing and songwriting in
BRMC, but his focus, at least at the present time, is on doing his own thing
and we wish him the best.
He is our brother, our musical partner, and we love him dearly and look
forward to playing with him again in the future.

From
Robert & Peter

Maybe he will rejoin for a third time? Who knows...

Pharrell, Santogold and Julian Casablancas Create My Drive Thru

What an unlikely team! Santogold, Pharrell Williams and Julian Casablancas teamed up to record a song for Converse called My Drive Thru. Its actually quite good and definitely a combination of styles between all 3 artists.
