The White Stripes made a very special appearance together to perform "We Are Going To Be Friends" on the last ever Late Night with Conan O'Brien.
It was nice to see the pair together and performing a little twist on a great track.
Check it out here if you didn't tune in on Friday night...

The White Stripes To Play The Last Ever Late Night With Conan O'Brien
The White Stripes and Conan have had a bit of a love affair for a while now. Remember the five night stint the band did to promote "Elephant"?
Well, Conan has asked the duo back to perform at his last show ever in the current time slot on February 20th.
What they will perform, I don't know. Any suggestions?

The White Stripes To Stop Playing?
A little trip to Beck's house to record the B-sides to their latest single "Conquest" may have prompted Jack White to have second thoughts about playing live again.
When asked by the LA Times if the White Stripes would ever become a studio band; White responded, "Well, the Beatles did it...I'm joking, but if we didn't ever tour again it doesn't matter to me… There are so many different aspects to being creative that it doesn't matter if one component is changed. Because it's been changing all the time since the band started...Maybe working at Beck's house was something we needed to do to remind ourselves that touring is only one component of what we do."
I have a feeling that this isn't the last you'll see of the band live...but if you've caught them live before then consider yourselves lucky.

White Stripes Rock The Fillmore (aka Irving Plaza)
Last Tuesday was a day for celebration! Icky Thump, their new release came out and to make everyone happy the band did a special show at Irving Plaza.
It was absolutely brilliant, the set list was unreal and the band were the way I remembered them...fun, talented and not the same band that I could ever see at Madison Square Garden. Plus, the crowd went MENTAL when Meg got up to sing "Cold, Cold Night".
Here is the setlist:
01 "When I Hear My Name"
02 "Dead Leaves"
03 "Icky Thump"
04 "Cannon"
05 "John The Revelator"
06 "My Doorbell"
07 "I’m Slowly Turning Into You"
08 "Jolene" (cut short)
09 "Hotel Yorba"
10 "I Think I Smell A Rat" (Jack teases "Misirlou")
11 "Effect And Cause"
12 "Apple Blossom"
13 "Same Boy You’ve Always Known"
14 "Catch Hell Blues"
15 "St. James Infirmary Blues"
16 "Cold, Cold Night"
17 "I Want to be the Boy to Warm Your Mother’s Heart"
18 "You’ve Got Her In Your Pocket"
19 "Astro"
20 "Union Forever" (lyric tease to "Little Cream Soda")
++ Jack's caffeinated NYC sightseeing day*
21 "Blackjack Davey"
22 "Black Math"
23 "Let's Build A Home"
----
23 "Blue Orchid"
++ Jack's squirrely standup#
24 "A Martyr For My Love For You"
25 "I Don't Know What To Do With Myself"

Icky Thump? CD? Pshhhhhhhhhh
The White Stripes celebrate the release of their new album "Icky Thump" (in stores now and brilliant might I add) with not just the typical vinyl, CD and iTunes ways of purchasing BUT allowing fans to buy the album on limited edition Jack and Meg USB flash drives. They are mini Meg and Jacks and absolutely darling.
The show at the Fillmore last night was absolutely out of this world. Review coming soon!
For now log onto www.whitestripes.com to get your flash drive though...they are ace!

Icky Thump Leaked by Q101 DJ
DJ Electra on Chicago's famous rock station Q101 officially leaked Icky Thump much to the dismay of Jack White and crew. She got the album from a friend of a friend and the rest is history.
Now my question is, how the hell did Q101 play this record without permission from SOMEONE! Whether it be the band, management, the label...SOMEONE I just don't know what got into her that she decided to play the record on such a prestigious station.
Here is the blog entry:
God, what a day. Here's what I can tell you.
At 2pm today, during my show, Q101 became the first station in the world to play the new White Stripes album, Icky Thump. It's awesome. It's really, really, unbelievably brilliant and awesome. I was giddy and excited to share it with fellow fans.
At 4pm today, Jack White called Q101's main offices from Spain, where they're touring, looking specifically for me, to yell at ME for leaking the album and, in part, being "messed up for the entire (music) business." (Edit - I listened to the call again today, and I apologize for initially misquoting Jack.) I felt like I was going to throw up. Weirdest, most surreal conversation of my life.
So Sherman and Tingle were on the air when Jack called. They took the call with me in the studio, off the air. Jack asked me to take responsibility for leaking the record, and asked if I was sorry for what I'd done. S&T both jumped into the call - I was clearly flustered - and backed me 100%. We tried to explain where we were coming from - someone gave us a copy of a record that we were really excited to play, and the whole experience was an hour-long lovefest for him and his band - but he wasn't having it. He hung up, very, very angry, and I thought I was going to cry. Instead, I drank some beers that the Fix had left in the studio. Room temperature Bud Light. Delicious.
After speaking to Jack's manager and getting their side of the story, Spike and I went on the air with S&T to open up the situation to the listeners. We respected Jack's desire not to be on the air and didn't re-air the call, but we talked about what was said and what happened. I'm extremely grateful to everyone who called in supporting us. I don't think I am helping to ruin the music industry. I think I made people excited for the new White Stripes record. I know that was our intention.
I also still think Jack White is an incredibly talented musician, and I still think the new record is amazing. I just don't think I'll be able to listen to it without feeling like crap for a good long while.
And that's all I have to say about that.
Well, at least those lucky Chicago folks got to hear the record!

The White Stripes - Staying Together
Just an FYI...the White Stripes aren't going anywhere (thank god!)...confirmed by Jack White. After rumours spread that the band would split after Icky Thump, Jack White confirmed personally that they are here to stay.
When speaking to NME Jack said,"We get asked all the time, 'How long do you guys think it's gonna last?' I'd venture to say that in 90 per cent of interviews, someone has asked us 'Is this the last record?' It's almost as if people want us to stop!"
He also admitted that there is "something special about the band" that it is "hard to put into words" and that linking up again with drummer MEG WHITE is natural.
He said: "We gel effortlessly. We're very fortunate to have that blessing on the music - it doesn't occur in every position."
Alright, well now we know there are many more mariachi outfits and records to come! Woohoo!

(Not So) Icky Thump
Now I was a bit worried that Jack White has went to rock star husband land and would totally forget how to make a good song but HOLY SHIT the first single from "Icky Thump" (which is also titled "Icky Thump") is absolutely brilliant.
XFM premiered the single and its like Meg and jack entered Frank Zappa/Jimi hendrix land and lost themselves in a sea of guitar and noise.
Can this band do ANY wrong?
The fine folks at Idolator have provided an MP3 of "Icky Thump" which you can download HERE
I heart Jack White...even in his dumbass mariachi outfit.

The Mariachi Stripes
You have to give them credit for being creative... in ways to look ridiculous. I'm just glad Satan Jack White is out of the picture.

I quite like Stereogum's Three Amigos take on the cover.
That's it. Icky Thump!

White Stripes Tour Dates = Lie!
So I guess the good ol' NME jumped the gun a little too quickly and posted White Stripes dates that aren't valid.
The website says it all...
With unbridled enthusiasm for the June release of 'Icky Thump', various publications and web sites have posted a North American tour routing that holds no semblance of reality. Indeed, it looks like their journalists simply found and printed the tour routing the band did in support of their 2005 release, 'Get Behind Me Satan'.
In fact, The White Stripes have yet to confirm their North American routing as of yet. But we are happy to say that it will include all 10 provinces and 3 territories of Canada, as well as the remaining 16 states of the United States the band have yet to play. A few major markets that have been journeyed to in the past will be also be included.
The North American tour will start in the state of Tennessee.
Best Regards,
The White Stripes Management
I guess we'll have to wait a bit more to get excited.
