The Empire Strikes Back...and Fails

If only Kasabian would go away the world would be a better place. While in the process of listening to this BBC Electric Proms gig don't get me wrong...it sounds good but ANYTHING can sound good with a fucking 70 PIECE ORCHESTRA.

AND IN THE PROCESS OF LISTENING THEIR TRACK SKIPPED!!!!!!! Nice job on the Doberman boys...Kasabian are going on to be the next Milli Vanilli.

This band is shit...will always be shit and Empire is so far from the title that this band should have on their albums its not even funny.

Kasabian=total shit. Let the comments fly but after Electric Proms they proved it.

Bigmouth Strikes Again...

Liam Galagher can do no wrong in my book...and I always find him to be rather funny. Latest Liam victims are Pete Doherty and Tom Chaplin of Keane being called "posh lightweights". According to NME.com: Liam told The Sun, "None of us have ever been in The Priory, like all these little idiots today. They have one little line, they have one burn and they're all in rehab...That Pete Doherty is cabbaged already. And it's like, 'How old are you? Priory at 27 years of age? You idiot.' Posh boys can't take."

There you have it folks - Liam Gallagher's words of wisdom for the day. Just pray you aren't his next victim...

The Good, The Band and The Queen Play First Gig

Lucky for the people in Devon and the Pig's Nose! Last night they got the lucky chance of seeing The Good, The Bad and The Queen at their first gig ever warming up before BBC's Electric Proms.

The band is basically the most insane line up since who knows BUT its Damon Albarn, Paul Simonon (The Clash), Simon Tong (The Verve) and Tny Allen. So what they did was say "Hey let's put together al of my favorite bands and make a super group". Amazing!

The band played:

'History Song'
'80s Life'
'Northern Whale'
'Kingdom Of Doom'
'Herculean'
'Behind The Sun'
'The Bunting Song'
'Nature Springs
'Soldier's Tale'
'Three Changes'
'Green Fields'
'The Good, The Bad & The Queen'

If you haven't heard them yet..well I've just chaged that.

Thanks to Girlpants for the MP3

For the first interview with the band I would suggest you pay the import price and buy NME or you can be a nerd like me and buy a subscription.

Jamie T Ditches His Track With Lily Allen

Mr. Jamie T has ditched out on a collaboration with Lily Allen because he was unhappy with the production.

According to Gigwise, he said: "I asked Lily to sing on the track and she sounded fantastic - her voice is so pure. But the drum beat is so awful so I've chosen not to use it on the album.

"We had about three of four working titles for the track but I don't think it will ever see the light of day now, so it doesn't matter."

When asked if he would work with Lily Allen again Jamie reportedly remarked, "Maybe. Although not for this album."

New York Dolls To What...???

I might be a little late in the game, but I am currently re-reading Please Kill Me and realized the following...how did David Johansen of the New York Dolls go from this:

to this:

I can't believe that the singer of the New York Dolls also sang the song that everyone danced/limboed to at bat/bar mitzvahs when I was a kid. Its also sort of amazing that he didn't lose his cred but maybe there is a deeper story to this that I don't know?

How much does this suck? Darren Cullen, drummer of ShitDisco broke his wrist and cannot play any dates opn the Club NME tour coming up for the band. Cullen was dancing on the top of his tour van when he fell off and broke the important body part needed for drumming (well ONE of them!).

From NME.com

He explained: "The house engineer broke his fall slightly but he still suffered a broken wrist. He went to hospital and had metal plate put in after surgery.

"He will be unable to drum for the rest of the tour but Darren is in good spirits and he can't wait to get back."

Session drummer Mark Heaney has been drafted in to replace the Shitdisco sticksman for the remainder of the tour, which continues in Northampton Soundhaus tonight (October 11).

Lily Allen - Caught on Tape!

Here's some Lily footage from Hiro last night(more coming!):

NY Broad x

Lily Allen at Hiro!

Here's the scoop on Lily last night...which was absolutely fantastic. Being pretty much the most important show of her life, Lily breezed through an 8 song set that left people wanting more (a lot more to be honest!).

The setlist was as follows:

"LDN"
"Nan, You're a Window Shopper"
"Shame For You"
"Knock Em Out"
"Littlest Things"
"Friday Night"
"Smile"
"Alfie"

Lily was quite nervous and it was visible to everyone in the crowd. It make her though, more likeable and the vibe easy going and fun. Alex Kapranos, some guy from Maroon 5 and a ton of Brits made up the crowd as well as a bunch of suits and dorks like me who sang along and danced to the whole set. I can't wait for a proper tour and for everyone that doesn't own Alright, Still yet...you are mental.

Video coming soon! Also, check out this shot of Lily from last night coutesy of Mediaeater

Justin Hawkins Leaves The Darkness

Now this one is a killer...Justin Hawkins leaves The Darkness for drug addiction and says the band is still going to go on? Come on...not going to work.

Hawkins tell The Sun, "I feel bad for the others (in the band), It will be an upheaval. But it's time for me to move on. It would be damaging to my recovery to stay on. I'm not blaming the band for my problem - I am an addict. There are people who can be in bands and stay clean, but I'm not one of them."

At his worst, he was spending £1,000 on blow a week! I mean I know being in a band is rough and going on tour can be boring but thats a lot of drugs...hopefuly he saves some cash and gets sober.

Oh No! Oh My! In LA Tonight!

Okay, say what you will about punctuation. That it's so %&$#! unescessary, BUT I have to let everyone know of my love for yet another educated band: Oh No! Oh My!. Oh yes!

Meet Greg Barkley, Joel Calvin and Daniel Hoxmeier. The songwriting nucleus of ON! OM!

These kids were picked up by the blogger train almost a year ago, specifically by I Guess I'm Floating and a few others. They're originally from Austin, TX and reloacted to Nashville so Greg (vox/guitar) and Daniel (guitar) could go to engineering/recording school. Out there they picked up a few more members Tim Regan (formerly of Snowglobe) and Will McDonald (bass).

Without ever having played a live show, the band recorded their self-titled debut which is equal parts The Shins, Modest Mouse and unabashed wide-eyed romance and awkward quirks. Their lyrics read like a childrens book on acid, "so, let's ride bikes into the sea / and catch a bus outside the reef" but ends in a quaintly morbid realisation of loss that brings it back to 20-something woes "but if i die / i guess that you'll die, too"...

Basically, these guys have something. They're still unsigned, but it's in the works, and you should expect BIG things from them very soon. This year they've already played Lollapalooza and opened for The Flaming Lips and Gnarls Barkley. But, for those of you in LA it is your chance to see them in a great, intimate venue, and consequently, party yr ass off. They play tonight @ Dim Mak + Filter's Cinespace party:

Also, check out these select track (thanks to CYSTSFTS and i Guess I'm Floating):

Sexy = Paxil

I love irrevereance. I also love collaborations. So, when an irreverent collaboration pops up on the great ol' net, I go apeshit.

Enter LA's The Gray Kid and local poet/player/guest "yeah!"-er/author/whatever else is cool guy Daniel Stessen. For those who know, Gray Kid is the dreamy indie hip-hop kid in a waistcoat. Swooon. Gray Kid has been playing around LA for the past few months. I remember seeing him rolling up with the lovely Jax at one of our SXSW parties. Very charming kid. He's just released his album 5, 6, 7, 8. You can download "Lonely Love" from it here:

Sean Lennon Thinks You're Dead Meat

It's only appropriate that as the weather in LA is turning into not-so LA weather (yes, there are clouds in the sky and it may dip below 72 today) that I have officially become obsessed with the new Sean Lennon record Friendly Fire.

I only got to touch on his debut (written when he was 20 and released in 1998) Into The Sun. In a recent interview with Venus Zine he admitted that the first album was his blissfully romatice stage in life, and this 8 year later follow up is showing him an an aestheticist, which he defines as:

"I’m an aestheticist, meaning that I think the only purpose of art is to be beautiful... That may seem superficial to most people, but I don’t think it is. Because I think, again, that true beauty is not the daisy in the sun. It’s the daisy in the sun, and the earth, and the worms, and the dirt, and everything that combines to make a beautiful scene. The truth of life and death has to be there in order for something to be truly beautiful."

That is the crux of this record. He's still in love, or at least trying to be, and this record shows the grit and mirth of the struggle to do so, but it's backed by the sly and sweet melodies that made us fall in love with Sean, the musician, way back when.

Friendly Fire is streaming on Filter's MySpace listening party on THE BOOTH. But, also check out the first in the series of Friendly Fire’s film vignettes that accompany each song on the album. Sean kicks it off with the film for his first single “Dead Meat.” Check out the leading lady cartel as Bijou Phillips, Devon Aoki and the love her or hate her (after this cameo, though, I think i'm on the love train) Lindsay Lohan make guest appearances.

I Officially Love KT Tunstall

Its rare that you find a performer that sounds incredible live, is fun, energetic and her songs are absolutely mind blowing. KT played her second date at Webster Hall last night to a bit of a weird crowd (people with bad hair, Long Island moms and everything weird in between) but it didn't matter...who cared about them. She did a new track, "Ashes" and "One Day" was a total highlight (which she forgot the words to at first...it was rather funny). Fun KT fact - if she was a man she'd be Wayne Cohen from The Flaming Lips.

She didn't do the cover of Fake Plastic Trees...but who cared...she was incredible. KT makes me get all nerdy because I absolutely adore her...and if you get the chance to see her live even if you don't think you'll like you you HAVE to go.

PLUS, she did a cover of "I Want You Back" at the end of the night...who can pass that up???

The Good, The Band and The Queen The Follow Up To...PARKLIFE??!!

What do you get when you cross Blur, The Verve, The Clash, Fela Kuti and throw in a bit of Dangermouse??? Welcome The Good, The Bad and The Queen.

Reading this article on NME.com made me the happiest person alive (for around 2 minutes. According to Damon Albarn, their January 2007 debut album is "the natural successor to Blur's 'Parklife'" Coincidently, American producer Dangermouse wanted to make an "English" record and so the story goes...its pretty fucking "English".

The Good, The Bad And The Queen's self-titled album will be released in January 2007, with single 'Herculean' out on October 30.

Now I'm officially excited about the new year.
