Lily Allen Takes on the NME

Girl don't give a fuck...

Straight from her MySpace blog:

Wrong end of the Glowstick . NME rant
Current mood: aggravated

I probably shouldn't be writing this , but I have to get it off my chest . I am not a big fan of the NME , as they sold me down the river when I last talked to them , I did and interview and made a sarcastic joke using the word "gak" which is slang for cocaine . They glorified my joke and used it out of context , then their public relations dept , contacted the tabloids in a shameful attempt to sell more copies . And , I have ever since been known as " Lily Allen , Pint sized potty mouth popstar who once admitted she would celebrate her no 1 single by taking cocaine ! " .
Thanks NME . Now , I have read many articles in the NME , where male band members freely admit to, or associate themselves with the taking of drugs , and I havent seen many of them ending up in the tabloids . Take Klaxons for example, and the ongoing MDMA references. " MDMAZING " I believe was the title of a recent article ( how responsible! ) .
The only reason I can think of , for recieving such a different form of treatment , is because I am a woman . I did recieve a written apology from Conor Mcnicholas ( the editor) . But i vowed never to work with the NME agian . As I thought, if there was one publication I could trust and be frank with , it would be the theirs .

Anyway , I was aproached by them again , with regards to the "Cool List Issue 2006" , five women had made it into the top 10 and , subsequently we (the women) were asked to pose for photos to be the main feature for the cover . As I said before , I vowed not to work with them again , but as the context was so important ie; a a strong female presence in music . I thought i might aswell put aside my differences and do it . Now i don't care for " the cool list " , and I said this to them in the interview , which is probably why they didn't print it . I don't really think the NME are in any position to tell us who is cool and who isn't , personally I don't think a bunch of people sitting in an office drinking tea , inventing musical genres , and watching Nathan Barley DVD's are leading any kind of cool brigade , do you ?
But i did find it interesting that they wanted to put five women on the cover , and wanted to name 2006 , our year .

I went to get a copy yesterday , and this is what we ( the women ) got . Another fuckin MUSE cover . I like Muse , infact , Black Holes and Revelations , is one of my favourite albums of this year . But the NME have covered them so much this year already

Now usually you might expect a call , just out of courtousy telling us we had been pulled off the cover , but we recieved nothing .

This is Conors ( the editors) comments on this issue , He has obviusly put out some press release , stating how supportive the NME is to women in music

Conor McNicholas, the editor of NME, said he was pleased that the Cool List was full of women who had brought "new energy" to the music world.

"This year's Cool List is a testament to the raft of hugely talented women who have taken hold of the music scene in 2006," he said. "From Beth to Lily to Karen, they've brought new energy to a scene dominated by men. They're also living proof that you can still rock a crowd when you're wearing stilettos."

I mean how fucking patronising " you can still rock a crowd wearing stilletos "
Is that all we are , stilleto wearing people , is that all he could say ,that we brought a " new energy" to the music scene . Don't make me sick , wev'e always been here you arrogant prick , this was your chance to actually show you meant it . And instead you put Muse on the cover . Cause you thought that your readers might not buy a magazine with an overweight lesbian and a not particularly attractive looking me , on the front . Wankers .

You should take your heads out of you New Rave arses , and actually think about your responsibilities to youth culture , and to women in general .

Oh and by the way , theres not enough RAVE in New Rave .

Nice one Lily...you truly dont give a fuck and you take on the biggest music publication in the UK. They can't ignore you...and tey can't ignore this.

Viva Lily!

The Futureheads Get Dropped from 679 Records

One question...who drops the fucking Futureheads?! They've put out one of the most worthy Kate Bush covers ever (Hounds of Love)! Even so, the band is excited to be dropped from 679 Records after 2 albums.

Frontman Barry Hyde told BBC6 "I'm over the moon about it to be honest with you, 'cos I feel like we're free now. We weren't happy as a band on that label."

Hopefully this doesn't jeoparize their contract in the States...that would suck

Factory Girl December 29th!

Finally a movie trailer for Factory Girl...the movie that made Tom Cruise officially look like a freak (he apparently told Katie Holmes not to take the role because it would be bad for her image) and officially made Sienna Miller a certified star.

Fun facts about Factoriy Girl:

Lou Reed's thoughts on the film... "I read that script. It's one of the most disgusting, foul things I've seen - by any illiterate retard - in a long time. There's no limit to how low some people will go to write something to make money", as well as "They're all a bunch of whores."

...Can we just mention that this comes from the man that had a shitting on people fetish (and ho knows if he still does)?

Brian Bell and Pat Wilson from Weezer play Lou Reed and John Cale...and they also do a cover of "Heroin" for the soundtrack.

Its Mary-Kate Olsen's first role ever without her sister.

For fucks sakes skip the facts, here's the trailer:

NICE BOWIE TOUCH might I add! Also, if you want to play catch up before the movie gets released on December 29th read Please Kill Me and it has a bit of Edie and Warhol background info

Illinois at The Syrup Room!

I can't say enough good things about Illinois, the little band that could straight out of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Seeing them for the second time at the Syrup Room in Bushwick solidified the fact that they are fucking awesome and are pretty much the next big thing. Playing a short set with songs from their EP "The Revenge of Some Kid" which you can purchase HERE it just never fails that they are nothing short of fantastic to watch. I screamed "one more song" repeatedly like a fucking nerd after they cut their set short.

Whatever you do...go see Illinois at Pianos on Demcember 13th and 14th. If you are going to SXSW they are playing down there as well!

Shirley Manson Solo Record and Garbage Greatest Hits

How did I let this slip...sorry guys. Shirley Manson will be releasing a solo record and working with none other than Jack White and Billy Corgan. I guess Billy is returning the favor of fucking up their whole tour together in 1996. Now I must say that this could be my most anticipated album of 2007 considering Garbage is an all time favorite of mine. Garbage said they would never tour again...

Also, there will be a Garbage greatest hits album titled "Absolute Garbage"
...but could this mean another tour?????

Absolute Garbage tracklisting, according to NME:

"Vow"
"Queer"

The Almighty Kanye West Apologizes

After his stupid outburst and the MTV European Music Awards he aplogized and said the following to MTV: "It was just out of raw emotion. I had a couple of drinks but I was more drunk with adrenaline. I was drinking at the awards show because I feel so at home at awards shows.

"On one hand, I felt like I should have won. But if anybody watches the show, I was laughing. People don't understand my dry sense of humour. I went up there and said, 'Hell nah, I should have won'."

Kanye, that is not a dry sense of humour...that is just dumb. You can't win everything and having Pamela Anderson in your video means nothing these days...its not like she's NEVER been in a music video before.

Placebo Live At Nokia Theater

First of all, let's start with the Nokia Theater sucks. Its not loud enough and its just weird. Now to the actual show...I missed She Wants a Refund for a reason, I didn't want to hang myself with my own t shirt before Placebo went on.

Placebo were good but not great. Brian now looks like a football hooligan with a shaved head and shirt and tie. I like the androgynous Brian WAY more. Plus, they had 3 extra guys on stage playing guitar, keyboard, backing vocal BLAH BLAH. It was better when they did it themselves.

They played a ton of new stuff...which was good but I would have liked to have heard some of the more classic tunes. Opening with Infra Red and going straight into Meds was awesome and got the crowd buzzing a bit. Throughout the night they did two encores even though the crowd was a bit boring except for the few cool ones in the front row going mental. The highlights were Special K where Brian encouraged the crowd to sing along to the ba ba ba ba ba ba dah dah part, Every Me Every You and Taste In Men.

The weird thing is they are a BETTER live band now but I'll take the Without You I'm Nothing tour over this one. Still, the band are fucking brilliant...

The Horrors Are Well...HORRIBLE

I have to hand it to ProductShop NYC for a fantastic show last night at Studio B. The Thermals were amazing and people were going absolutely nuts for them! It was refreshing to see a crowd that excited...and unfortunately it didn't stay that way. The fucking Horrors took an hour to go on because they thought they were the Rolling Stones. The unfortunate part is that NO ONE CARES ABOUT THEM anhd over half the crowd left before the band even got on. When they got on it was just loud noise and stupid cliche image shit. I thought I was going to enjoy them but I was quite wrong.

One highlight though is the single "Sheena Is A Parasite" and the video is amazing but not enough to impress me. I thought it was shit and I think a lot of people agree with me.

Question of the day...How the FUCK did this band make the cover of NME? Is the magazine that desperate?

If you haven't seen the video for "Sheena Is A Parasite" then here it is:
