Maximo Park To Play At London's Forum For Charity

Maximo Park have teamed up with Blood Red Shoes, Pete and the Pirates and Mystery Jets for a very special gig at London's Forum in support of The Royal Marsden Hospital and the No Surrender Charitable Trust on May 28th.

After Maximo Park's good friend, Jason Boas, was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, the band took action and put together the gig.

“When someone you know is up against cancer it makes sense to give them your full support. Since that is currently the case, and that person is being treated at The Royal Marsden hospital, which was recently damaged by fire, we decided to do what we can as a band. What we do best is play concerts and we intend to give all profit from our gig at The Forum to help rebuild the cancer unit where they not only look after sufferers but continue to further our knowledge and treatment of the disease. We've never been a preachy band or asked people to shell out daft amounts for tickets, but this show will be well worth the entry fee for a number of reasons.”, says Paul Smith.

Tickets are priced at £20 and go on sale from 9am on April 9th and are available from:

Mystery Jets Are Who's Next?

Ah, it's time again for the music industry's new media popularity contest: Yahoo! Who's Next?

All the bands du jour (and some not) sidle up against each other in a contest to see which marketing company/publicist has the most contacts in order to get their band the most votes. Perhaps I'm being a bit cynical. Does anyone even use Yahoo! Music? Or am I just completely off-base?

Anyhow, one of my favorite "new" bands (who recently canceled their summer US dates) Mystery Jets are in the running for this month's "Who's Next" campaign. They're up against LA's dreampop unit Great Northern, someone I have never heard before called John McLaughlin but probably sounds like Josh Groban taking a bath with Jack Johnson, and finally the hardest working girl in obscurity England's Carina Round.

So, it's a no-brainer: vote for the 'jets....

Their US-only EP Zootime will be out on Dim Mak and they will eventually make it out here for a full US tour late in the summer.

Mystery Jets Cancel Their North American Tour

MyStery Jets and the next to announce as many UK acts have been these days that their North American tour is canceled. Of course, its a visa problem again and the band can't obtain the necessary ones to come into the country.

The good news is that the band is trying to reschedule the gigs for later on this summer or fall.

Bummer!
