Beth Ditto Does NME

Beth Ditto of The Gossip has never been ashamed of the way she looks. Case in point, her strip-capade at SXSW when she sweatily jumped around in only a bra and panties much to the audience's surprise.

This time around though Beth really pushes it with her nude self gracing the cover of NME. Now, more power to you Beth but PLEASE we don't want to see you naked anymore. In fact, no more naked celebrities on NME. Thanks.

Lily Allen + Lindsay Lohan = Bad Time

Lily Allen still always writes the most honest, intresting blogs on MySpace and this latest one was no different.

On a trip to sunny California, Lily went the "trendy" way and decided to head over to LA hot spot Les Deux where she was promptly thrown out of her table by none other than Londsay Lohan. Now, from what I recall, Lindsay had went up to Lily recently and told her how much she loved her music...

Straight from the blog:
"After that we went to this club called Les Deux , and that was really fun untill Linsay Lohan arrived and had us thrown off our table , I know shes a huge star an all , and famous people deserve to sit down especially when they've been working so hard , but whatevs . Linday our thoughts are with you as you go through this difficult time in your life ( she got arrested this weekend ) in the words of Timbaland and Timberlake " what goes around .............."

Ha ha...so true. I think getting arrested for having drugs in your car and then getting papped looking like a dead fish in her SUV sort of shows how karma works in funny ways.

Laura Mary from Blood Red Shoes Gets Attacked

Stupid bouncers. Stupid stupid bouncers. Laura Mary from Blood Red Shoes had a bit of an "altercation" with one in Manchester. Not a very nice way to treat the ladies!

Here is her side of the story:

"I left the backstage area carrying a bottle of wine to go and watch
Pull Tiger Tail. The next thing I knew a bouncer grabbed my neck from
behind and started to drag me out of the venue. When we got to the
stairs he tackled me in a Johnny Wilkinson way and I fell and hit my
head on the stairs and slashed my arm open. Luckily Charlie from the
Rumble Strips saw what was going on and jumped to my rescue by pulling
the bouncer off me. It was all a bit of a blur, there was blood
everywhere from my arm - it was pretty scary. I promised to make
Charlie an apple pie for being such a hero. Apparently it was all
because the bouncer thought I was underage."

The asshole has been sacked thank goodness...

Jesus and Mary Chain At Webster Hall

What can I say about Jesus and Mary Chain? They're fucking legends! Finally, after being sad about missing their Coachella performance the two nights at Webster Hall were announced and it made my life. The gig though sort of made me a bit sad...

Why you ask? First of all it wasn't loud enough! The sound was so low I could have a conversation and not even be bothered by the music. Now when I go to a Mary Chain show I want my ears to be blown out from a massive wall of sound courtesy of the Reid brothers and the rest of the band.

The sad part #2 was that the band just wasn't feeling it in the beginning. The crowd was a bit lame and it seemed lie they just wanted to get the gig done. After hearing they were amazing at Coachella I wonder if it was just something that was in the air last night.

Even so, it was still an experience. I never thought I'd see the band in the flesh and it was a pleasant surprise to see them reform. Oh, and the set list was AMAZING!

The setlist was:
'Never Understand'
'Head On'
'Far Gone and Out'
'Sidewalking'
'Snakedriver'
'Happy When It Rains'
'Some Candy Talking'
'Between Planets'
'Blues From a Gun'
'Cracking Up'
'All Things'
'Teenage Lust'
'Just Like Honey'
'Reverence'
'Vegetable Man'

Lily Allen Still Rips Into Cheryl Tweedy

Does Cheryl Tweedy from Girls Aloud realize she needs to shut the fuck up? How do you throw back comments to the cutest yet biggest mouth in music right now? Lily Allen once again made some remarks about Cheryl that are 100% true and hopefully this will shut Tweedy up once and for all.

When Tweedy said Lily would never play an arena, Lily fought back saying, "I played twice at Wembley Arena last year and I'm playing Wembley Stadium in a couple of months.

"I'm over here in America where I've sold more than 500,000 albums. I wonder when Girls Aloud last came over here to promote an album? I don't think anymore has even heard of them over there."

"If she comes out and slags me off again, I'm not going to retaliate. I haven't got time," reports Yahoo.

Garbage Tell You Where It Hurts

Garbage are a teenage obsession I have never been able to kick. There is something about Shirley Manson thats always kept me in awe of the band and sort of loving everything they've ever done since their self titled 1995 release.

Now with 12 years as a band under their belt they finally have come to the conclusion that a greatest hits album is a must and will be releasing "Absolute Garbage" on JJuly 17th via Geffen Records.

They did a new track for the album called "Tell Me Where It Hurts" and Deaf Indie Elephants has the MP3. Shirley 's put her Chrissie Hynde love in full effect for this track as it sounds like a Pretenders song to the max.

Basically, Johnossi is a duo from Stockholm that have an album coming out on V2 (overseas of course!) on June 4th simply titled "Johnossi". Their name stems from their ACTUAL names (John and Ossi) so they got creative and meshed them both together.

They are absolutely brilliant and create rock songs to kill.

FIELDS at Mercury Lounge

Ever since I saw FIELDS open for Bloc Party in Glasgow I've had a slight obsession with their absolutely beautiful wall of noise that they create live. It was nice to see them at the Barrowlands but even nicer to see them Saturday night at Mercury Lounge.

Unfortunately, the US tour has ended but I would highly recommend seeing them when they come back. Smashing Pumpkins Unveil Tarantula

Well...the half Pumpkins (Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin) have reformed and are creating a stir with their upcoming tour dates and new single "Tarantula" that premiered on Los Angeles radio station KROQ today.

Now, first impression is that its a Queens of the Stone Age ripoff with bad vocals. Maybe it could grow on me? I am willing to give everything a second chance.

Watch me love it in two weeks...stay tuned.

To check out the track for yourself go HERE

Love Is All Stole My Idea

Everyone has a karaoke song. I don't care if it takes you 6 shots of Cuervo Gold to grab the mic, you know you have one. And those of us who aspire to be "musicians", by playing power chords in garages and spend time at work looking up guitar tabs instead of making phone calls, have a cover song. It's a song that is your ace in the hole in case all of your original material sucks--with this song you could still make it.

For me, I wanted to find a track with a good balance of great pop catchiness and slightly obscure cool. My song was The Pastels' "Nothing To Be Done." It is sheer pop genius. Apparently, Swedish art rockers Love Is All thought so, too. They stole my thunder and cover the fucking song that was going to get me on blogs. Fuuuuccckkk yooooou!

Kidding... kinda.

I love this band, and they did a great job of the cover. Plus, they've been recently endorsed by Karen O (that really rubs salt in the wound). Check out their version of the Pastels classic at their MySpace page. But, let's compare....

Arctic Monkeys and be your own PET at Hammerstein Ballroom

Going into this show I was a bit worried that

A-The crowd would suck
B-Arctic Monkeys just wouldn't be able to play it off in such a big American venue

So, I was wrong twice because the show was absolutely brilliant. The band came out to "If You Found This It's Probably Too Late" and wasted no time mixing it up with new tracks from "Favourite Worst Album" and all the hits. No encore either...the Sheffield boys are getting to be proper rock stas.

Here is the setlist:

'If You Found This It's Probably Too Late'
'Brianstorm'
'Still Take You Home'
'Dancing Shoes'
'From The Ritz To The Rubble'
'Balaclava'
'Fake Tales Of San Francisco'
'You Probably Couldn't See For The Lights But You Were Staring Straight At Me'
'Teddy Picker'
'D Is for Dangereous'
'This House Is a Circus'
'Old Yellow Bricks'
'If You Were There, Beware'
'The View From the Afternoon'
'Fluorescent Adolescent'
'Do Me A Favour'
'When the Sun Goes Down'
'Leave Before the Lights Come On'
'A Certain Romance'

Lily Allen Gets It Back

Lily Allen is still such a loveable character through thick and thin. Yes, she has turned into a bit of a brat through her rise to stardom BUT she also is still honest with herself and honest with her fans which you have to love.

After Lilys last outburst which really saw her starting to crumble, she gets it back with a little help from Mom and her fans. Here's her latest blog entry

Hi guys , I'm sorry if I worried anyone with the blog I wrote yesterday . I was feeling pretty sorry for myself , I've been reading all your comments and they have made me realise there is more to life than being thin ! So thank you . I think I was just having a hard time last week . After reading cheryl tweedys comments branding me a "chick with a dick". I was feeling pretty low and aswell as that, some of you might know I launched my clothing line for new look last tuesday , and seeing my picture in so many newspapers next to kate moss' , made me feel grotesque momentarily . I know its a silly way to feel and I am incredibly proud of myself and my achievements over the past year, there are so many good things about my life . I really am incredibly lucky . I guess it shows how much of an effect the media can have on us young ladies . As for the amy winehouse bit , someone sent me a link to a picture blog where there were some paparazzi shots of my brother and I , and there were hundreds of comments from mean sad people , saying I was a fat ugly bitch and how much better amy is than I . Usually I ignore these things , but in my heightened emotional state I let them get the better of me . My mum has come out here to keep me company and I feel much better now , I sha'nt be getting any surgery , instead I will be eating lots of bread and pasta and thinking about what to write about for the next album . I really am touched and was quite surprised at the reaction the blog received and it definitely has restored my faith in humanity .

I know I've said bad things about people in the past , though the majority of them have been blown wayyyy out of proportion , but this i mean
Cheryl if you're reading this , I may not be as pretty as you but at least I write and SING my own songs without the aid of autotune . I must say taking your clothes off , doing sexy dancing and marrying a rich footballer must be very gratifying , your mother must be so proud , stupid bitch .

And yes...fuck Cheryl Tweedy. Anyone that can take themselves seriously by singing "Something Kinda Ooh" and can go in the NME dressed like a bunch of punk rock assholes can pretty much fuck off.

VH1 Rocks LA; MC5 Plays Bingo

Being an avid reader of the LA Weekly, I have often mentally breated myself for never having gone to LA Weekly's "Rock & Roll BIngo." They always have fun hosts, like Annie from Giant Drag, Franki Chan and local comedian/UCB member Jonah Ray (also a fellow Hawaiian! His comedy is hilarious, check it out here).

This week, they are stepping it up a notch and incorporating VH1's Rock & Roll Honors Week. VH1 is going to be airing a TV show honoring the crusty metal musings of Genesis, Heart, Ozzy Osbourne and ZZ Top with live performances from Alice In Chain and Queens of the Stoneage--and for some reason, Gretchen Wilson is playing too (wtf?!) BUT, they're bringing the "party" out to LA (oh, targeted field marketing). So, this week there's all sorts of rocky events happenin'.

Thursday night your not-so-geriatric (almost, though) bingo host will be Detroit's very own Wayne Kramer! Bust out those $40 MC5 shirts you got from Urban Outfitters, y'all! Sarcasm aside: it'll be super fun. They have an additional list of events here, but none of them soundtoo exciting, unless you plan on throwing cabbage at Whitestarr (that's just an idea, feel free to get more creative). If you want to go, here;s the deets:

Rock 'n' Roll Bingo
Join rock legend Wayne Kramer of the MC5 as he hosts Crane's Hollywood Tavern's monthly Rock 'n' Roll Bingo Night. It's just $5 per bingo card for a chance to win concert tickets, record store gift certificates and much more. All proceeds will go to LifeLab, a community dedicated to helping young adult cancer survivors restart their lives. Then, stick around after bingo for special surprise performances.

Thursday, May 17
Crane's Hollywood Tavern
1611 N. El Centro Avenue, Hollywood
323-302-2695
6.30pm

Now excuse me while I go office karaoke to "Barracuda"...

Rockstars In London Wanna Make You Dance

If you live in London, please go to this and then comment on how much fun it was. Regale us with how many times you went up to Carl and asked him to play your request just to smell his sweat (only because you had 6 vodka tonics, of course), how many times Jasper pointed from behind the DJ booth and how many times The Rakes spun Peaches (or perhaps a Steve Aoki Bloc Party remix... Woo! Yeah! Party!)

It's A Direct Hit!

Hopefully those will be the words coming out of critics (i.e. journos, not bloggers) pens, keyboards and mouths when Art Brut release their new record It's A Bit Complicated. My bet is on the 'Brut.

To aid you in deciding whether or not you think this "joke" band is worth their salt, check out their newest "leaked" song "Direct Hit" from their forthcoming sophomore album:

Lily Allen Is Losing It

Lily Allen is not the same "I don't give a fuck" girl she used to be. In this day and age there is no such thing as a "developing artist" and the hype I think has made Lily just sort of lose it.

In her latest blog post she pours her heart out and it sort of breaks my heart...

"fat , ugly and shitter than winehouse

that is all i am , im on my own in america again . I used to pride myself on being strong minded and not being some stupid girl obsessed with the way I look . I felt like it didnt matter if I was a bit chubby cause , im not a model , I'm a singer . Im afraid I am not strong and have fallen victim to the evil machine . I write to you in a sea of tears from my hotel bed in Seattle , I have spent the past hour researching gastric bypass surgery , and laser lipo suction ."

Poor Lily :(

Travis - Video for "Selfish Jean"

Travis has sort of been making a comeback...but the thing is I feel like not many people care. I could be wrong..but I remember hearing U16 Girls for the first time thinking I'd be hooked for life. Now, not so much.

Anyway, here is the video for their single "Selfish Jean":

Part Amy Winehouse. Part Arctic Monkey. All awesome! Straight out of the UK and already opening for the likes of Amy Winehouse, Remi Nicole is definitely making a splash on the UK music scene and for good reason...she's sort of fucking rad.

The White Stripes - Staying Together

Just an FYI...the White Stripes aren't going anywhere (thank god!)...confirmed by Jack White. After rumours spread that the band would split after Icky Thump, Jack White confirmed personally that they are here to stay.

When speaking to NME Jack said,"We get asked all the time, 'How long do you guys think it's gonna last?' I'd venture to say that in 90 per cent of interviews, someone has asked us 'Is this the last record?' It's almost as if people want us to stop!"

He also admitted that there is "something special about the band" that it is "hard to put into words" and that linking up again with drummer MEG WHITE is natural.

He said: "We gel effortlessly. We're very fortunate to have that blessing on the music - it doesn't occur in every position."

Alright, well now we know there are many more mariachi outfits and records to come! Woohoo!

Well, her clothing that is. Just a friendly reminder to go to Barneys Co-op today and get a little taste of Kate and Topshop. That is, if its not sold out by the time you get there.

Judging by the London crowds its going to be a BIT mental...

Pete Doherty Gets Arrested Again

I love Pete but come on...its enough! He's been arrested yet AGAIN for possible posession of a Class A drug in London on Saturday.

How many times can someone post bail on him? Can't someone lock him in a room for a few days a la Trainspotting and that would work?

Whatever it is...get help!

Fields + Blonde Redhead = Good Ticket

I love Fields. Their almost effortless intertwining of My Bloody Valentine rushes of sound, dissonant melodies and folk backbone amazes me. But... I also like drinking. And because of my lush status, I missed them at Coachella. It's okay, start hurling balled-up post-it notes at your computer screen: I deserve it.

But to make up for it, here is their awesome new(ish) video for "If You Fail, We All Fail" and some pics of their live performance from Coachella.

The band are also touring this summer and a few dates are with Blonde Redhead (also a Coachella highlight). Here's the dates:

5/2 Portland, OR - Berbati's Pan
5/6 Washington, DC - 9:30 Club*
5/8 New York, NY - Webster Hall*
5/9 Boston, MA - Paradise*
5/11 Toronto, ONT - Opera House*
5/12 Montreal, QUE - Club Soda*
5/14 Toronto, ONT - Amp'd Mobile Studio
5/15 Detroit, MI - Lager House
5/16 Chicago, IL - Empty Bottle

Well, the Horrors have given us a revised list of the dates they will play this summer across the US. One wonders what happened... were the UK Cramps fanclub too frightening for our black rebels?
