Bloc Party - The Prayer on Letterman

Bloc Party rolled through Letterman a couple of nights ago to perform The Prayer. It cuts off a bit but still you'll get the jist.

Going to see them tonight at the United Palace Theater...after the SXSW performance I'm still excited to see them again for the 3rd time on this tour.

Will have a full review of tonight's show up soon...

Be In A Placebo Video

Capitol Music Group is partnering with Motionbox for their new video (and Kate Bush cover) and they're giving Placebo fans the opportunity to participate.

The concept of the video will be Placebo fans "running up that hill" (original!) and it is limited to the first 1000 people that upload their video.

Here's the deal:

Placebo’s fans will submit video using Motionbox, the premiere personal video sharing service. Fans will upload videos at www.motionbox.com/placebo. The band is asking fans to submit single-camera shots of them singing their new single, “Running Up That Hill,” sung in its entirety; with the deadline for submissions being April 6th.

Fans will be able to:

1) Download the instrumental & lyrics
2) Upload their videos after capturing video of themselves singing the song
For more information on How to Upload your video, please visit:

www.motionbox.com/placebo

Now go find a hill and run up it.

M.I.A. and Timbaland - Come Around

I don't know what the deal is with M.I.A. lately but I'm just not feeling it as much as her older stuff. Here is her track on the Timbaland album (with Timbaland of course) that didn't make the US release.

M.I.A. and Timbaland - Come Around

Apparently its a bonus track on the UK album...

Kate Moss For Topshop - Inside The Design Process

Not usually something the Broads would talk about but for some reason I've been quite interested in this line for ages. As much as Kate Moss does quite a few retarded things she really really IS a style icon and someone that people would kill to dress like.

Check out this podcast of Kate and the Topshop crew designing some key pieces for the line:

Also, the joy of now living in the US is that Topshop delivers here but not many people have it :) Now, good luck trying to get it online though because these pieces are going to fly off the racks.

Kele Okereke Has Some Words About Oasis

Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke is definitely fearless (and smart!) when it comes to who he slags off. This time around the victim is Oasis who of COURSE have had more than their fair share of slagging people off.

"I think Oasis are the most overrated and pernicious band of all time. They had a totally negative and dangerous impact upon the state of British music...They have made stupidity hip. They claim to be inspired by the Beatles but, and this so saddens me, they have failed to grasp that the Beatles were about constant change and evolution. Oasis are repetitive Luddites."

and it doesnt end there. He has some choice words for Noel Gallagher too. When asked about [Noel] Gallagher`s "University Challenge" remark, Okereke said: "Well, it`s quite funny. It probably would have been a lot more funny had he not used exactly the same words to describe Travis a couple of years ago."

There you have it...another feud and now a new band Oasis can rip apart. East London vs Manchester...here it comes!

Radiohead Deny The Starbucks Rumours

After Starbucks confirmed they had signed Beatles legend Paul McCartney the next up was...Radiohead? After one of the band's representatives was caught meeting with someone from the coffee chain the rumours started flying.

Management has flat out denied it and issued the following statement:
"Radiohead are currently in the studio working on their next record. They are not negotiating a new record deal with anyone, and will not even consider how to release their new music until the album is finished.

"The rumour that they are about to sign with Starbucks is totally untrue."

There you have it folks...its a LIE!

I've been meaning to talk about Kate Nash for ages but I just never got around to it...sorry. Then again you should ALL get to know Kate Nash and her fantastic first single "Caroline's A Victim". The girl is not even signed in the UK yet and people are going batty over her!

Also, Tape Deck straight out of LDN do an amazing remix of "Caroline's A Victim" that you can download!

Possible Suede Reunion?!!

Someone has answered my prayers somewhere...Suede has NOT written out a reunion.

Brett says,
"I would never do it just for the money, but would not have a problem with it if it was for the right reasons. Like if a member of Suede sent me a great piece of music, and I was inspired to write to it and felt we could make a great record.

"I'd do it if it didn't come across as sad, but that's a big if - I don't think bands can reform without it looking sad," he adds, in reference to a recent spate of musical reformations.

"I never count things out, but it's not like I'm sitting here planning a Suede reunion."

I say, "HOLY SHIT!"

Jarvis Can Waste My Time, Anytime

It seems like only yesterday when I was a little BritPop, twee tween when I bought my first Pulp album. After the first sultry coos of "Common People" I was done for. Jarvis Cocker had taken my teen crush virginity and had smashed both Paul McCartney (the Beatle years, duh) and JTT (the Home Improvement years, duh) out of my life.

Now that Pulp is officially(??) dead and his solo career(??) is afoot, let's get back to drooling over Sheffield's finest (sorry, Alex Turner).

Exhibit A: "Don't Let Him Waste Your Time", The Video.

More dry comedy about shitty boyfriends, helpful cabbies and running over the city gentry.

Exhibit B: Jarvis Cocker: The NYLON Interview

My favourite magazine (yup, I said it) gets deceitfully domestic with Jarvis.... the killer.

It's big, I'm sorry!

Exhibit C: I Spy: Jarvis Tour Dates

Do him and yourself a favour and go to one of these shows. For those of you lucky bastards in NY and SF and Vancouver, you must go. Please go and stretch your arms out in comfortable delight and imagine me sweating in a 400 capacity tent just chilling in the desert with 800 of my closest friends. Bastards.

Sun - Apr 22 Jarvis Cocker @ Webster Hall, New York, NY
Mon - Apr 23 Jarvis Cocker @ Webster Hall, NYC, NY
Fri - Apr 27 Jarvis Cocker @ COACHELLA, Indio, CA
Sat - Apr 28 Jarvis Cocker @ Fillmore, San Francisco, CA
Mon - Apr 30 Jarvis Cocker @ Showbox, Seattle, WA
Tue - May 01 Jarvis Cocker @ Commodore, Vancouver, BC

The Verdict:

"Cunts Are Running The World" (download this. NOW.)

Well said, Jarvis. Only a true pop icon could get away with that and still get paid.

In summation, his solo effort could be the springboard of something akin to Morrissey, only sexier and more fun. Let's let him know we care. Jarvis will be out on April 3, but you can pre-order it here.

(Cajun) DANCE PARTY!

My friend Julia always tips me off to music I love (I have my fair share of sending her stuff as well...but thats another story). This afternoon she asked the magic question, "Have you listened to Cajun Dance Party yet?" and to that I said "No." I listened and now I'm in love.

So, heres the deal on them. The band is made up of:

Daniel Blumberg: Lead Vocals
Robbie Stern: Guitars
Max Bloom: Bass Guitar, Backing Vocals
Vicky Freund: Keyboards, Synth, Backing Vocals
Will Vignoles: Drums

Of course, they are from the UK (North London be exact) and they're absolutely phenomenal.

Give a listen to the first single "The Next Untouchable" which is out in April in the UK and then listen to the other 3 glorious tracks on their MySpace

This will be your new love affair (don't worry you can cheat on Bloc party for just a little while)...

Amy Winehouse Turns Down Dinner With Justin Timberlake

Amy Winehouse had quite an enjoyable visit to LA. The one and only Justin Timberlake apparently asked her out on a dinner date but she turned him down!

A source told UK paper The Daily Star: 'Justin really wanted to meet Amy. He thinks she has an amazing voice, and a unique style,'

'He asked her out to dinner, and she's considering it but first she wants to spend some more time with Kelly [Osbourne] as she's still feeling emotionally bruised.'

I guess Kelly is cooler. Amy really doesn't give a fuck...and I love her for it.

New York vs London

I'm been meaning to share this with everyone for a while because its a damn good article but I haven't gotten around to it. New York Magazine has compared both New York and London side by side and come up with some seriously valid points.

Now thes are my downfalls with London:

-Pubs/bars close at 12:30 (what!)
-24 Hour eateries are few and far between (maybe thats why America is so fat)

Also, the best DJs on the planet Tape Deck get a lovely mention in the article. They have the sickest remix of Klaxons "Atlantis to Interzone" and they'll be spinning in New York so COME

Lily Allen Covers Heart Of Glass

Lily Allen definitely chooses her cover songs wisely...this one being just as good as her other covers. Usually they are 80's tracks (Blank Expression, Up The Junction...which I STILL can't get my hands on!) and now Blondie's "Heart of Glass".

When Lily did an in store at Waterloo Records in Austin she broke this one out acoustically...

SXSW Day #2 - A Late Recap

It takes a long time to recover from SXSW but finally this weekend I got some proper sleep, relaxed and finally had time to actually remember what the hell I did in Austin.

First day was a bit crazy...visited a friend of mine in Austin and stayed with her the night before the festival started. That was great and all but it took 75 MINUTES to get a cab that went downtown. Finally I checked into the hotel, got ready and headed to the Fader house (free Southern Comfort!) and quickly went straight over to the NME showcase to see The Automatic, Jamie T, Lily Allen, Razorlight and SOMEHOW SOMEONE (you know who you are!) convinced me to stay for The Bravery late night. I missed The Sunshine Underground which sucked a bit but I was already burnt out by the time I got to Stubbs.

All the bands were great and it was fantastic finally seeing The Automatic and Jamie T for the first time. Lily Allen slagged off the NME fantastically ("did I tell you I fucking hate the NME") and Razorlight were of course fantastic...its like watching a veteran rock band playing on a small stage.

The thing I was actually pleasantly surprised about was The Bravery and actually enjoying them! Now, they are really just a bunch of old men that used to be in a ska band and picked up a keyboard...but I let all that be forgotten and actually found them to be quite enjoying.

Heres a few videos of each band's performance for your enjoyment (relive Austin!)

Lily Allen Is Tired

Poor Lily Allen...the US has exhausted her and all she wants to do is go home.

Lily posted this on her MySpace blog:

Yo , so its been a while , I havn't really had much to say , I still don't . I've started to feel it's my duty to write blogs , I didn't feel that before . Life is weird at the moment . Is it really important to break America ? If it is I have to write my life off for the next 9 months , playing the same gig answering the same questions to different journalists and such , or go home sit o my boyfriends sofa for a bit , then write a new album . what d'ya reckon ? As much as I love driving across America and doing the same thing every night , I'm bored slightly , this is no reflection on my audience , cause I have a huge amount of respect for them . It's the songs , I'm bored . Since January I've toured Japan , New Zealand annd Australia , I've done a European tour , gone to Paris fashion week , done a UK tour , spent one night at home , apparently I beat up some paparazzi , and now I'm on a US tour . It goes till May . I dunno what to do.

I'll tell you what to do Lily...I LOVE you but suck it up

Kissing Party at my house, my house.

I've been sitting on this little-known Denver band for a while. I'm selfish. I'm greedy. But, now I have changed my heathen ways and will let you in on this amazing secret: Kissing Party.

It's not an episode of Girls Gone Wild (sorry), it's actually a band. Along with being excellent kissers, they've found time to write a slew of under 2 minute, just enough sugar, pop gems. They're indie-pop to a tee... twee? To get an idea of their sound, imagine if you will The Pastels hitting on The Vaselines at a dive bar, buying one too many shots of Jaeger, taking things back to his place only to have both of them realize they're still in love with their exes, but they exchange numbers anyway and are totally going to stay friends.

Make sense?

Perhaps this will help. Check out an old live review by Filter from an early show they played at Denver hipster haunt Hi-Dive last year here.

The band's core is made up of frontman Gregg Dolan and frontwoman Deirdre Sage. They banter back and forth with I love you, but I hate you verses in saccharine melodies. But don't think this is another mates of state. The two are platonic, as you can see in their live shows when the band delves into an Oasis moment and Dolan starts kicking the band when they make mistakes. Take that, Noel. The band released a home made demo album a few months ago locally called hold your hour and have another, and are hitting a Denver studio to produce more of "the greatest songs ever" which Dolan promises to be "better than Oasis." Here, here.

Check out some of their oldies but goodies...

Kissing Party - Pretty Victories
Kissing Party - Meeting Ground

One more. For the sweetest guitar solo and deceptively cute break-up song ever...

Razorlight Love Canadians

Razorlight felt so damn bad about canceling their Toronto gig that they are giving fans the ability to enter a contest to see them in London. The contest ends today so get cracking Canuks!

Here are the details:

Toronto Gig Information

As a gesture to fans who came to the Razorlight show at the Mod Club in Toronto on March 1st and found that it had been cancelled at the last minute, the band have decided they want to offer four fans the chance to see Razorlight play in London. After arriving in Toronto in a blizzard and having to pull the show when Johnny Borrell and Bjorn Agren came down with flu, they wanted to find a way to make up for the loss of the show. Ticketholders can enter the contest simply by sending an e-mail to feedback@emerge.ca and sighting the barcode number on their ticket (12 digit number, right side of the ticket) along with full contact information. Anyone who went to the show can in addition post on myspace. Applications as pairs will also be considered if both people had Toronto tickets. On Friday March 23rd March the submitted e-mails will be pooled, and two barcode numbers will be chosen at random. The winners will be informed that afternoon. So, what exactly will you win? Flights, and accommodations for 2 nights in London along with tickets to see Razorlight play at Earls Court on April 8th. Its sold out with 17,000 people so it will be an amazing night. You’ll need passports and to be able to travel to London leaving April 7 for a couple of days. Razorlight are also going to try to reschedule the Toronto show as soon as we can.

Johnny Borrell says: " We were really looking forward to the show in Toronto and I was gutted that we had to cancel at the last moment. I know how frustrating it is for the fans to have show pulled at the last moment. I saw the Raveonettes do this once, when we supporting them in Bristol a few years ago, and I know how frustrating it is for the band and the fans. It’s the first show that we’ve pulled due to illness for over 2 years, and we just wanted to do something to try and make up for it particularly to the fans who undertook the journey through the blizzard and snow that night. Hopefully, we’ll be back in may sometime and we will see you there.”

If you don't own the self titled second album...well you SHOULD. You can buy it HERE

White Stripes Tour Dates = Lie!

So I guess the good ol' NME jumped the gun a little too quickly and posted White Stripes dates that aren't valid.

The website says it all...

With unbridled enthusiasm for the June release of 'Icky Thump', various publications and web sites have posted a North American tour routing that holds no semblance of reality. Indeed, it looks like their journalists simply found and printed the tour routing the band did in support of their 2005 release, 'Get Behind Me Satan'.

In fact, The White Stripes have yet to confirm their North American routing as of yet. But we are happy to say that it will include all 10 provinces and 3 territories of Canada, as well as the remaining 16 states of the United States the band have yet to play. A few major markets that have been journeyed to in the past will be also be included.

The North American tour will start in the state of Tennessee.

Best Regards,
The White Stripes Management

I guess we'll have to wait a bit more to get excited.

SXSW Night #1

And we're off! SXSW has kicked off to a great start...sort of. After my plane was delayed 3 hours and the amount of beers I had consumed before the flight started to seep in we were off. Had Peaches and Les Savvy Fav on our plane and the whole flight was hipster heaven.

Met up with the fiery red head aka LA Broad, drank some wine and caught up for a bit.

Today off to the hotel and Stubbs...more to come!

Filter Mini.. err, Good Music Guide Teaches the Arctic Monkeys

Since we're all Arctic Monkey-ing around. Ha, ha, ha. Ooh, good one, LA Broad. But seriously... I just purused my alma matter's website, and found out that Arctic Monkeys are on the cover of Filter's newest issue of the Good Music Guide (formerly Filter Mini... and in my opinion much more aptly titled). Filter kicks ass with this mini-mag, though. I almost like it more than the actual magazine.

Almost.

This issue's twist is that they've got a bunch of good, established (read: Grandfather) musicians and some of their contemporaries who've done the "second album thing" to give the lads some sage advice on what to do from here. Some of the prestigious line-up is The Futureheads, The Smiths, Supergrass, Oasis, Idlewild and Gang of Four. Plus there's some bitchin'/bitching reviews and guides to SXSW and Austin. Fun for all!

Check it out and download it online here:

ono yoko: i love the jesus and mary chain

This post is totally ridiculous. I just have to tell everyone how excited I am about that band reforming. Holy shit. Oh my God. My year will be made.

On that note, William Reid (whom I consider to be the fairer of the 2 brothers Reid) has been recording (and I believe is finished with) his new forthcoming solo album, which is still untitled. But, if you do some JAMC stalking on MySpace you can find William's official MySpace page. And, as an added bonus, you also learn his middle name.

Unfortnately I can't post an MP3 here, but go to his MySpace page to listen to the new track from said album called 'Ono Yoko". It's not as "progressive" as the tracks form his 2003 Lazycame album, but it still has his signature twist on pop.

oh no, oh no yoko....

Talk Power

Remember when Chan Marshall decided she was done with being a psychiatrist's worst nightmare and was now funny woman with ambitions to star on SNL? Well, if and when that happens we've found what it would sound like.

Since this is blog land, I know most of you who read will know who this band is. I'm talking about Montreal's (where else?) Land of Talk. The first time I was introduced to LOT was through the emeritus Village Indian, and Amrit had a picture of vocalist/guitarist Elizabeth. The only thing I could think of was "she looks so fucking cool holding that guitar!" Not in a Joan Jett cliche, but in a comfortable, natural way. She was meant to hold that thing. And thank God she is, because Land Of Talk's new mini-album/EP Applause Cheer Boo Hiss will be one of your favorites of 2007.

Now, back to the Cat Power reference. Elizabeth's vocals are very simialr to Chan, but have a more urgent and raw--almost riot grrl-- appeal, but the notes sound just as sweet. Backed by bassist Chris and drummer Bucky (best drummer name since Animal) you've got the fixins for yr new fav band.

Their new single "Speak To Me Bones" will do the explaining:

Land of Talk - Speak To Me Bones MP3

And with lyrics like "i love anyone but me", she might be a little more Cat Power than I first thought... Check out the band at SXSW and on their mega tour.

iheartSXSW

The time is upon us....

The 2 costal broads shall meet in the mecca in the middle of Texas (is it in the middle? Irrelevant), that is SXSW. So, if you see a smokin' rehead and a bombshell brunette talking in fake English accents, stumbling down 6th street, that's probably us. SOme come say 'ello.

I digress. The real point of this post is to give you all who are going to Austin the inside track to the party line. Because, what is SXSW if not a non-stop party? So, here are some party highlights for you all...

iheartcomix is the home to bands like Matt & Kim and Protokoll, who rule, but they're now branching out in their musical pallate. Last year they had ana AMAZING SXSW party @ Beauty Bar, which I missed because I was working, but several people got drunk and thrown out which means it was a winner. This year, they have amped up the parties to THREE this year, and they're ridiculous. This year there's more of a DJ/dance spin on things with heavy-hitters (hoppers?) Diplo, Kid Sister, A-Trak, Bonde Do Role as the main attractions.

RSVP for each party to the address on the flyers below:

OOF. THA. HOOK.

See you there, kiddies...
