Amy Winehouse just keeps spiraling further and further down. The other week in Zürich, Amy could barely perform her songs due to constant crying fits and NOW she loses the James Bond theme to newcomer Leona Lewis.

Amy was allegedly confirmed to do the next Bond theme and it someone got pulled away from her. She needs to get it together before she really loses it...

Oh how I love The Maccabees! After their nice little CMJ appearance at the Bowery Ballroom and the CMJ/Blender party I have fallen deeper in love with the tunes from these Brighton (via South London) boys.

Their performance at the Blender Theater was short and sweet. The crowd was a bit lame but the band sounded solid. Apparently, they killed the Bowery Ballroom show earlier that night which I missed, but CMJ is full of choices...

Likely Reads: Wonderful Tonight - George Harrison, Eric Clapton and Me

When a muse to two of the world's most prominent rock legends writes a book, there is no way you can ignore it. Finally, after years of holding back, Pattie Boyd has written a memoir of her life and marriages to both George Harrison and Eric Clapton. You get to know the woman behind the classic tracks "Something", "Layla" and many others but most of all finding out that rock star marriages aren't always as perfect as they seem.

Pattie Boyd begins with her life in Kenya and why she molded into the person she became when she met George Harrison. Being cast in the movie "A Hard Day's Night" from a crisps commercial, her single line in the film lead her to her future husband George Harrison. Through many years of happiness which turned to heartbreak, Boyd eventually left Harrison for his best friend Eric Clapton.

Boyd's eventual marriage to Clapton was a romance turned ugly with Clapton's drinking habits and cheating ways. Eventually, Boyd left Clapton and realized she was in her 40's, had no job and was living off her husband who wasn't too into supporting her. Somehow, Clapton and Harrison remained friends and both got remarried eventually.

Boyd still says Harrison was really her one true love. Wonderful Tonight is great story with a bit of a sad ending...and one of the best rock and roll stories around. I couldn't put the bok down and I don't think you will either...

Tori Amos Live @ The WaMu Theatre at Madison Square Garden

Tori Amos is an artist that constantly has the ability to reinvent herself in a non Madonna way. She always approaches her shows with a certain kind of passion that embodies the personality of whatever album she is touring in support of.

Last Friday (October 12), Tori Amos did her second night in New York to a basically sold out audience. As usual, she changed her set list from the night before as well as came out as two different personalities from her album "American Doll Posse" (Santa and Tori). The set list was great, the crowd was fine but for some reason the show and I just didn't click like they usually do. Touring with the full band for Tori never works...she's a solo artist and her talent on the piano is just magical. Any other instruments just drown her out live and its not the organic, wholesome Tori that I am so used to loving live.

It made me a bit sad that I wasn't impressed (until of course she started doing some songs solo) but its still always a moving, fantastic experience to see Tori live. She still has plenty of dates on her current tour so I'd suggest catching one of them

The Verve Reveal New Song Titles

Its bad enough that us Americans don't have any Verve reunion shows to go to (yet!) but the good news is new Verve song titles have been revelaed for (possibly) an album to be released early next year.

Simon Jones posted on his MySpace the following:

Yo! Been pretty effin busy over last couple of months - September was spent in Terry Britten's amazing studio in Richmond. It's brimming with vintage gear, an old E.M.I desk(Pink Floyd-Dark side of moon era) and billions of guitars,old analog gear, a treasure trove of effects pedals(nick, like a kid in a toy shop!). The Sessions have been pretty amazing, we certainly have an embarrassment of riches where material is concerned! We will need to do a lot of listening over the next few months before we reconvene in the New Year to pull it all together! Plenty of hour long jams! and killer choons! we just need to get the balance right.

Last week kicked off with the Q awards-fckin weird dipping your toes into such showbiz events-think that will be my last venture to such affairs-I had to leave before the dinner was served-who wants to eat that shit when you can eat pies! What the fck am I on about-just had to leave and get the fck outta that place! Maaaaaan!

Anyway, the remainder of the week was spent rehearsing"up north" (what a freakin luxury to make music away from that big London place!) with Nick and Pete. Richard will be joining us later when we've gotten the music together. Gotta say - twas the greatest few days playin' old tunes! Started with Life's an Ocean and gotta say it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! So far we got a short list of about 20 odd tunes to pool from for these first gigs, in no particular order we played-Make it till Monday, Virtual world,She's a Superstar, Gravity Grave,This is Music, A New Decade, On your Own, History, Stormy Clouds,Life's an Ocean, A Northern Soul, All in the Mind!(Sounded Amazing), B.S.S.,Drugs don't Work, Sonnet, Lucky Man, Come on, Weeping Willow, Rolling people, Velvet morning, Space and time,Man Called sun, Starsail and new ones,should I give titles away yet?fck it-Sit and Wonder,Judas,Appalachian Springs. Other new ones we are planning to do - maybe-Mona Lisa and Rather Be. I don't want to give the game away(already have) but I would like some feedback on all this-Now's the time to speak up! Hot Chip have just announced details of their upcoming release "Made In The Dark" which will be released February 5, 2008. 13 tracks of pure dance bliss.

If they can do it again and having new killers that even hold a candle to "Over and Over" they will totally be my heroes.

Radiohead's "In Rainbows" Makes a Small Fortune

Let's just say that first off it deserves to because its an absolutely brilliant album. Secondly, Radiohead are absolute geniuses for challenging this crumbling music industry the way that they did.

Now for the stats. Radiohead's "In Rainbows" recieves approximately 1.2 millon downloads which fans paid an average of 4 pounds ($8) for even though they had the option of paying only 49p for it. Therfore Radiohead made a grand total of approximately 4.8 million pounds ($9.6 million) an barely any overhead cost. Plus, this doesn't even count the 40 pounds box set option that they offered fans.

Good for Radiohead...they are one of the few that make such an impact and have such a successful release like this BUT it does show that the middle man isn't as necessary as we thought.

What more can you say about Eric Clapton? Two legendary bands and a solo career, 3 time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee; the word "legend" and Eric go hand in hand.

Now for the first time, Reprise Records has released all of Eric's accomplishments onto one release, "Complete Clapton". Beginning from his days in Cream and Blind Faith to his thriving solo career, the tracks on the CD complement Clapton's legacy to a T.

If you aren't familiar with Clapton, start here. If you are familiar with Clapton then its just an easy way for you not to take up your time and make a mix CD of all his stuff. Its a great record and a way to discover more about someone you should be a fan of if you are a music fan in general. Plus, Layla is one of the best songs of all time...

PJ Harvey Live @ Beacon Theater

There are no words that can even express how magical PJ Harvey was on Wednesday at the Beacon Theater. It made the hairs on my arm stick up and gave me chills throughout the course of the night.

Coming out in the same dress as she wears on the cover of White Chalk, PJ looked almost ghostlike as she floated up to the stage ripping right into To Bring You My Love. I've seen PJ multiple times over the years and never have I seen her walk to the stage with such confidence and grace.

The crowd was quiet and just sat in awe as PJ performed tracks from each of her albums released to date. She definitely showed the most love to "To Bring You My Love" and her latest release.

Alone at the microphone, she joked with the crowd as she went from song to song. Everything was perfect, from the lighting to her voice to the crowd. It was the best show of 2007. Period.

nine inch nails Are Free of Interscope

nine inch nails are the next band in line to say "fuck you" to the music industry and happily part ways with their label, Interscope Records.

"I have been under recording contracts for 18 years and have watched the business radically mutate from one thing to something inherently very different and it gives me great pleasure to be able to finally have a direct relationship with the audience as I see fit and appropriate," says singer Trent Reznor.

First Radiohead, now this. Finally music will be able to be promoted in a way that gives artists and fans direct access. The question is whose next to go?

Mark Ronson Live @ Webster Hall

Its no surprise that I went to Mark Ronson on Frday at Webster Hall...Version is by far one of my top records of the year and the show at Highline Ballroom was one of my favorite gigs of the year.

Unfortunately, the show at Webster Hall didn't deliver like I had hoped it would. It was pretty much the same setlist from the Highline show and the special guests were no surprise this time around. They even had Alex from Phantom Planet to come out and do "Just" and then go straight into "California".

It was still a good show...this time around the crowd was a little more spread out as the show wasn't sold out. Also, Daniel Merriweather performed a new track which was fantastic...

If you've never seen Ronson then go. If you have and sort of feel like skipping the gig then I don't blame you.

Bloc Party Live @ WAMU Theater at Madison Square Garden

Honestly, god bless Bloc Party. Can this band EVER do anything wrong?

On Wednesday, Bloc Party played their biggest headline gig ever in New York at the WAMU Theater at Madison Square Garden. I was a bit worried about how they were going to bring the energy to a massive group of people sitting in a big theater but SOMEHOW it worked...and brilliantly.

The set list was filled with a lot of the great stuff off of "Silent Alarm", a few tracks from "A Weekend In The City" and of course, the highlights (for me at least) were the new track "Flux" and the b-side "The once and Future King".

hello friends ,
i lay in bed last night realising I havn't ben here in ages , so apoogies . A quick update for you . I am currently in Paris and staying at the plaza athenee , which is an amazing hotel steeped in the most fascinating history , I have an amazing room which has another room in it for emily , I really do feel very very lucky to be here and have these oppertunities . I arrived here yesterday and went to the Stella show , which was lovely, and this morning I went to Chanel , which was soooooooo glaamourous I don't even know where to start , I sat next to Claudia Schiffer and Kirsten Dunst , it seems unfathomable that my first song "smile" was released just over a year ago and now here I am , in the most beautiful city in the world , sitting in the front rows of the most amazing fashion shows , that others would die to just get into . I really am a very lucky girl .
I spent the past couple of weeks in a twee little cottage in the cotswolds starting on the next album , and it's gone so well , i'm just over the moon at the moment , i feel like im on prozac or something . I won't say much but it's a different musical direction and really quite exciting . everything just seems to be falling into place . yes i did go out and get smashed the other night , some of you have probably seen the pictures , but i am but 22 , enjoying my life and celebrating . as the cold starts to set in , im thinking next year is going to be a good one .
anything else ? im doing fashion rocks in a couple of weeks , which should be quite exciting and then going back into the studio to finsh off the album , oh and im having meetings about a potential tv show , which is all very interesting . And thats about it , i hope you are all well , im off now .

No...its not on A Weekend In The City. Yes, its produced by Jacknife Lee. Yes, its going to be brilliant.

The song is entitled "Flux" and it will be released in the UK on November 12th. As for a US release, hopefully our trusty friends over at iTunes will have the track available for download as well.

Blood Red Shoes U.S News

Blood Red Shoes are coming to U.S shores quicker then we think. In a chat on Gigwise today, Steven confirmed that the band will be touring the States in March. Dates are TBA but its great news!

yup that's right. we're stuck in the cycle now....albums and tours...it's like being in a real band.....we're not just little brats anymore....we're "professional" little brats...

so we've finished the beast that is our debut album. 11 songs with some live classics you all know and love and some new material which we're really excited about. and no fucking love songs. it's some kinda monster. and it's pencilled for january 28th release tho you can hear the next single off it up on the myspace, and if you come to the tour we're currently on then keep yr eyes open for some little credit-card flyers - they've got details of how to access more album track downloads in advance.

so now the task is to take the songs around the world and wield them like weapons. we're feeling good after some wicked festival experiences (shout out to anyone at reading fest in particular), i got excited and bought a sampler, and laura-mary is getting more and more lairy with every gig (i caught her the other night jumping off the stage with her guitar, into the audience and rocking out with some massive hairy guy). i think she wants to be the female slash or something. and i just re-read the motley crue biography. so it's hotting up. our energy levels are increasing. our booze consumption is definitely increasing. and we're even eating more thai food, which we never realised was possible. in fact, we're on the road to becoming a superhuman rock machine. (so long as we remember to sleep now and again)

so in summary, album: good, touring: good, loudfuckingrockmusic: supergood. we're here for the black flag crown of 300 shows in a year and we're gonna fucking take it.....and there's still the USA, japan, and maybe even russia in the pipeline. so here's to being in a band. whatshischops from coldplay calls it "the best job in the world". we call it the best excuse not to get a job in the world. come and slack off with us.

Kaiser Chiefs Live @ Beacon Theater

There is one thing you can't deny the Kaiser Chiefs and that is that they put on a damn good show. Their gig at the Beacon Theater is really not the ideal place to catch the band as their energetic stage presence gets a bit lost in the fact that you are confined to seats.

Even so, it was still a fun gig, complete with of course Ricky doing his signature jumps, interaction with the crowd and walking over the seats to get in the middle of the Theater.

The one thing that surprised me was the hits in the middle of the set list. I guess at this point they are seasoned veterans so who am I to judge.

Libertines Release Best Of: A Time For Heroes

A time for heroes, indeed. Every generation laments the good ol' days when we had someone to look up to. John Lennon. Kurt Cobain. Hell, Kurt Vonnegut. Those people of an iconic nature, who mean so much to us—who seem to define us—aren't meant long for this world. So, it's got to be a little bittersweet when a band like The Libertines is releasing a "best of" and they're all still around... just not together.

Though I'm sure there'll be a formal reunion of sorts in a few years, if Pete doesn't off himself anytime soon, but this signifies the end of an era. Or, if you're feeling glass half full, it's the cornerstone of a time in history, from which everything else will grow. Or, it's just a 13 track CD of songs you probably already own if you're reading this (that's glass half empty). However you take it, it means something. It means these are great songs made by men who one day deserve to be icons for all the right reasons.

Radiohead's New Record For 45p?!

Radiohead never cease to amaze me with their "fuck the system" attitude. This time around they've revolutionized the art of cutting out the middle man and are releasing their album "In Rainbows" on October 10th. No promotion, no record label...all they have is a URL to purchase and the viral spread of the link.

So far, just about everyone knows about the release...I think they did pretty good on this one.

You can pay whatever you want for the record (they is just a 45p charge for processing) and there is also a gorgeous physical package with the CD, 2 pieces of vinyl, etc.

Bat For Lashes Live @ Bowery Ballroom

Before I headed over to see Kate Nash at Joe's Pub I decided at the last minute to see Bat For Lashes at Bowery Ballroom. I think it could have been one of the best decisions I have ever made it my life because I was so blown away.

Natasha Khan goes from one instrument to another with such grace...and that voice! That voice sent shivers down my spine for a straight hour as I watched in awe with silence so golden that a pin could drop and it would sound like a jackhammer.

Mostly everything was played for Fur and Gold and it sounded even better live then it does on album. When Sarah was played Natasha banged a stick on a huge wooden board contraption and combined with the bass drum it made the most magical sound. Even the hand claps when they played "Prescilla" sounded perfect.

I don't think I have ever been so converted in an hour. Welcome to the cult of Natasha Khan

Likely Looks: Kaiser Chiefs "The Angry Mob"

God bless Kaiser Chiefs for being able to put out almost as many singles as there are songs on the album. This time around, the quasi-title track "The Angry Mob" is getting the singles treatment. The video is a new direction from their slightly silly and puzzling (tennis ball juggler in "Modern Way," anybody?) video track record as they take a more cinematic approach.

This time, the boys play the help (tuxedoed waiters and barkeeps, a fine dining ivory-tickler and one ravishing limo chauffeur) amidst an angry mob of two flocks of fishnet and bunny-eared ladies on hen nights (very Sharks v. Jets) and a restaurant of dapper, upper-middle class twits.

Yeah! Keep it working class, boys! Leeds!

The Beastie Boys decided to add a little Anglophilia into their lives with their album "The Mix Up." Though currently an instrumental album, the band decided to add vocals to the tracks with a little help from Lily Allen, Jarvis Cocker and M.I.A.

Babyshambles Album Leaks

So much for keeping the new Babyshambles record from leaking! "Shotter's Nation" is now out and about on the internet for all the world to download.

Yes, I downloaded it. Yes, I will be buying it day of release. Please note: its amazing. The record is downright amazing...it blows my mind that Pete can be as crazy as he is and still manage to make his way into the recording studio to make an album.

Who cares how he does it...just buy the import on October 1st!

Kate Nash Live @ Joe's Pub

Finally after months of raving about Kate Nash I got the opportunity to see her play in New York last night. I missed the 9:30 show (caught Bat For Lashes which was brilliant as well...review to come!) so I caught the 11:30 show with the lovely Chris from Music Snobbery. We grabbed a spot on the couches right in front of Kate which was the absolute best view in the house.

Joe's Pub is quite small and the sound is amazing so it was such a treat to see Kate there. Playing to a seated crowd I could have done without, as there were times I wanted to stand up and dance a bit but it would have been awkward and I would have blocked someone's view. She came out in a little black and gold prom dress-esque number and went right into "Mariella", a track off of her album Made Of Bricks. The crowd was a bit dead except for the guy that screamed through EVERY song which was sweet at first but then you sort of wanted to tell him to shut up...

Kate's coming back early next year when "Made Of Bricks" gets a U.S. release and you MUST see her live. She will definitely be playing bigger venues. She's a great performer and has the charm to make you declare that you want to stick in your pocket and have your own little Nash.

Lord Don't Slow Me Down Gets a U.S. Release!

If you weren't able to catch the Oasis documentary for "Lord Don't Slow Me Down" last CMJ then you missed out. It captures Oasis EXACTLY as you want to see them...raw and completely in their element.

The good news is that the DVD will be released Stateside on November 4th. The double disc will also contain footage from the Q and A last CMJ in New York and footage from their homecoming gig at the City of Manchester Stadium.

PLUS it gets better...the single "Lord Don't Slow Me Down" will be released digitally on October 21st.

Foo Fighters Live at Irving Plaza

Ever since 1995, the Foo Fighters have been a staple of alternative rock music. Dave Grohl pulled away from the drum kit and stepped to the mic to become a front man...who thought it would work? 12 years later the band is still going strong and played their first show of the tour in support of their upcoming release Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace which is released September 25th.

The band came out and straight away launched into their new single "The Pretender" to a crowd that literally went apeshit. Plowing through a 2 hour set of greatest hits and new tracks, fans were singing along to all the old songs and eager to hear some fresh stuff.

Dave Grohl is still as cool as ever, at one point making his way up to the side of the stage and playing guitar all by himself on top of an elevated balcony. Banging his guitar aggressively on the ledge, the cell phones all came out and lights began flashing everywhere. It was like no one mattered at that moment in time except for Dave Grohl...

I think its time to whip out the old discs because I've rediscovered why I liked the band so much 12 years ago when I first heard "I'll Stick Around" blaring out of my FM radio.

Amy Winehouse To Record New Album

You know you thought there was a chance Amy Winehouse was never going to record again and lock herself inside the Hawley Arms forever with her husband. OK, maybe that's pushing it BUT the good news is Amy has confirmed that she is returning to the studio to record the follow up to her worldwide smash "Back To Black".

"I'm writing some new stuff and can't wait to be back on tour", Amy told the Daily Mirror.

Ahhh...now thats some good news as I think I'd go through some Wino withdrawal with Amy retiring.

Likely Looks: Smashing Pumpkins - Thats The Way (My Love Is)

I had my doubts about the Smashing Pumpkins reuniting sans D'Arcy and James Iha. Now, its nowhere near as good as Gish, Siamese Dream or Mellon Colie (opinion right now...but after those records they sort of lost me even though I own them) BUT the new single for "Thats The Way (My Love Is)" has grown on me to the point of adoring the track.

Pete Doherty is a mystery to all and short on a lot of things...but one thing he is some how never short on is music. Here is a new track with Wolfman thats come out courtesy of YouTube called "Darksome Sea".

Mark Ronson can pull all the celebrities in for recording tracks but when it comes to music videos it just doesn't happen.

What do you get when you put 5 Swedish girls together and add a little soul? Those Dancing Days!

Hailing straight out of Stockholm, Sweden; Those Dancing Days are a brand new act signed to Wichita Records in the UK. Their adorable, have tunes to kill and are a more soulful version of the Pipettes (sorry for the comparison).

The band's first single, 'Those Dancing Days' / '1000 Words' will be
released in the UK on the 8th of October.

Hard Fi went from relative unknowns to stardom in their own country with their debut album "Stars of CCTV" and semi fame in the US. Now, with the release of their sophomore album "Once Upon A Time In The West" they've hit #1 in the UK and are about to release the album Stateside September 18th.

I sort of chance myself singing the first single "Suburban Knights" at random times. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Its catchy and well, a bit hard not to like.

I wouldn't normally post about Britney Spears...but I sort of have a soft spot in my heart for her. She went from being untouchable to now the laughing stock of the entire entertainment industry. Where did she go wrong? Did she purposely try and fail?

She knew she sucked. I figured she would kill it in usual Britney style but she just looked like she didn't want to be there. Also, how do you forget to lip sync the words to your own song. She might as well have just done a dance routine and forgotten about the fucking microphone.

So much for The Gossip and The Long Blondes touring the States together! It was just announced that The Gossip will be canceling their upcoming tour due to the delay of their love album release.

The Duke Spirit Stream New EP

Spirit of the desert...

I have had the pleasure of listening to these bluesy, fog-tinged tunes since their debut album Cuts Across the Land came out on import via Loog way back in '05. Then, I got to see them play at SXSW (and tell them where to go at our showcase), which is when I officially fell in love. Liela Moss has the approachable look of a vixen in tomboy's clothing and a cat-scratched voice that is simultaneously eerie, innocent and arrogant.

They spent some time in the California desert this summer with the Desert Session's mastermind Chris Gross producing what will be their new record (can't wait!). The band now have a few tracks from these sessions in an EP that is now streaming at their official site and their MySpace page.

Klaxons beat out some pretty amazing acts to win the coveted Mercury Music Prize for Myths of the Near Future.

We all thought it would be Amy Winehouse or Bat For Lashes...but sometimes things don't always work in the odds favor.

Albert Hammond Jr. To Record New Album

So whats going to happen with The Strokes? I think they broke up or are in the process...but that remains to be seen.

Anyway, Albert Hammond Jr has booked some time in New York at Electric Lady Studios to record the follow up to "Yours To Keep".

The footage from the studio will be recorded and shown on Albert's MySpace page.

Bloc Party Back In The Studio

How do Bloc Party do it? Fresh off of touring for their sophomore release "A Weekend In The City", the band have revealed that they are back in the studio and will be working on their third album.

The band also revealed that they would be releasing a single in between both "A Weekend In The City" and the untitled upcoming album.

Then they tour again. and again. and again. BP style.
